Secretly Not Here Any More

It's no wonder this entry has been here for nineteen years when it's author is perhaps the rudest hootooer I've ever met. Perhaps he should look at the Peer Review page and see what it is all about.

Perhaps all the title, headers and beginning of footnotes should be given a review of their capitalization?

(sorry if that's been said before, I haven't read the entire thread because it's just not worth it)

Other than that, looks okay. smiley - smiley

Yes there has been a reveiw. The capitalisation was removed as it was hap hazard originally and someone stated it should be one or the other.

Yep its been brought up before. Third time now i think.

*is obviously totally not frustrated at repeating self*

Hmm, I've not seen this thread or entry before and have just been through the backlog expecting to see some sort of flame war. Nothing of the kind in fact.
It looks to me like the author has been perfectly repsonsive to criticism and suggestions and has corrected the article accordingly.

I read the article in its current form and it looks like a darn good job to me. smiley - ok

One thing about bumping up to the top of Peer Review. When I was a scout I used to have maybe one favourite entry and then I'd start at the bottom of Peer Review to look at the entries that had sunk to the bottom first so it may be worth letting it sink also. It does seem strange that this has not been picked yet.

To provide som variation from repeating yourself, would you please respond to my earlier criticism of referring to Macedonia as a city state? smiley - ok

Yeah I know, mostly just luck of the draw I'm afraid. I notice that this would be your first official entry and that's the toughest one to wait it out for. smiley - erm
Were I still a scout this would be a pick of mine. Alas I am one no longer...smiley - sadface

I wouldn't let it hold you back on writing the other articles you wanted to write. It would be a simple matter to tell either the sub-ed or the site editors to include links after recommendation (or even after appearance on the front page).
Someone spotted a typo in one of my articles three years after it debuted and it was corrected within the hour. smiley - smiley

Certainly, it's nothing big, mind you. You just refer to Macedonia as a city state, which I don't believe it was...

Hmm not entirely sure myself actually. I know it was refered to just as Macedonia, and different city states controlled it over the years (Sparta mostly near the end) but when phillip came to power i think he did turn it to a city-state after beating back the spartans

Macadonia was an area not like Thebes and Athens which were city states. And I don't think it was under Spartan control at the end. I thought when the Romans came it was goverened by Philip V, a Macadonian king? I could be wrong though. Unless you mean Philip II? But he didn't defeat the Spartans when he first came to power. The first couple of victories he had were against the Paeonians and Illyrians. I'll blow the dust off Polybius and Quintus Curtius Rufus and get back to you with a definative answer! smiley - smiley

I wasnt clear i appologise.

If my hassy memory serves me well, Macedonia only became a city state officially (like Athens et al) when Phillip II drove out the others (including a spartan contingent iirc) and took over Macedonia as its official ruler (i think there were some before, but non that really ruled the country as Phillip did).
By the end i meant the end of the greek city state and the beginning of the macedonnians rule of the area and then greece.

I think it was phillip who united greece against the Spartans, who had pretty much took over greece (including athens) before phillip was born (again my memory is hassy on the exact dates, i havent looked at my Spartan research in a few weeks)

Right, you may argue that Macedonia became more closely integrated with and recognized by the rest of Greece around the time of Philip II and his immidiate predecessors, I won't argue with that at all.
But that didn't make it a city state, as Macedonia wasn't a city... smiley - erm

It's a country, plain and simple, just lose the "city" in your footnote and I'll shut up.

Macedonia was an area. A country if you like. In Philip II's time the royal capital city (town may be more apt) was called Pella. It wasn't a city state.

Okiday ill go change it now.

But in effect the city states were mini countries. Ill get on it now. Thanks

The city/country was just a small thing. I really enjoyed the article. However I was wondering about your source for the reference to Philip II driving a Spartan contingent out of Macedonia. The Illyrians and Paeonians I know of. Perhaps Thracians as well. And right at the start there was also a tussle involving Argaeus (a rival to the throne) who was supported by (alegedly) 3000 Athenian hoplites. But I can't find a reference to a Spartan contingent. Again this is a digression and I apologise. It's just I would be interested to read it. smiley - smiley

Post 140

Asmodai Dark (The Eternal Builder, servant of Howard, Crom, and Beans)

I seem to remember reading it agggggges ago in ye olde days. It wasnt a contingent as such, just a garison of about a dozen with a couple of hundred slaves. Ill dig deeper.

If a scout comes looking *thinks yeh rite* then this isnt quite ready now, something has been pointed out and im investigating
