A Conversation for Talking Point: Endearing Pets

My pets are in the wild..

Blue Bird

I don't have pets inside my home. But out side in the garden they are free to come and go as they please to get the food I provide them. However it happens from time to time some of them becomes tame even though I don't tame them!

Once I had a Blue Jay who was waiting for me every afternoon sitting on the mailbox when I came home from work. The reward was peanuts from my hand. It is the most enjoyable feeling to see a "wild" bird to come to you because of his/her trust in you!

No need to tell how easy to make friendship with squirrels. I have 3 of them now who love to bother the birdfeeders. To prevent the "raidings" when I see them I offer a peanutbutter sandwich, which is much better to run away with, than picking tiny seeds meant for the birds.

Squirrels can become extremely clever when it comes to food.
In these days one of them learned that if he jumps on the feeder and than sits up on his hind legs and looks at the door where the sandwich used to come from he will not have to pick the seeds! Soon the much more efficient food will come and than up on the tree with no more fear from dangers like the neighborhood cats.

At the present time -- just for the fun of it--- I copy-pasted a little essay on My Personal Page from my wrings.-- It's about feeding the birds in the winter and the closing words are about my "pets" in the wild.

When developing friendship with animals with respect to their freedom, one can gather large amount of funny events. Than ofcourse in the gray, and dark days of the winter there is a " source" to pick from for writing or just telling some stories to your visiting friends. smiley - love Gecko smiley - smiley
