Well, there's only 5 bottles, and I've a feeling that number may have been depleted by 10 July. Probably to zero.

The 70 quid a bottle stuff is the best I've ever had going by taste.. I can't remember what the damn stuffs called now I've never been a big fan of Moet or bolenger, and you are right about there being some very drinkible stuff at prices I can* afford to pay Sainsburrys used to do (I hope they still do ) a very 'afternoon' slug it back champaign at less than 20 quid a bottle The expensive stuff we've just finished off, cost us* less than £20 a bottle Unfortunately we no longer have access to this 'source' So I'll be drinking cheaper stuff from no on for sure I'll have to get one of those bag thinggies you have to keep things cool in what they called

Hmm, if you say so Oh, or was I think of hot water bottles, why would I be thinking of hot water bottles? naa, must have been fridge bags, I mean cool fridges, I'd still like a 'proper' hamper; you know, made out of what whicket stuff however its spelt, with like the plates, and cups and stuff in it, and like a room for food and stuff, and wine and champaign, and little pots of preserves and would sort of keep the smoked salmona nd cheese and bottles of booze cool and like yeh, bet they are bonkers expensive though, and probably not very easy to cart about on teh trains, or about in teh pubs in the evning

Oh foiled Its living in Cambridge, I've been dragged into the depravity of the 'middle classes' Don't think I'd ever had smoked salmon till I moved to Cambridge I don't buy it every week mind... well, not necessarily every week I had a quick look on a few sites selling hampers, didn't look like any were the kind of I was thinking of, with the places in them for different things, and the chinna plates and stuff all fitting in nicely and organised like I'll probably make do with a rucksack and a couple of those plastic water filled blocks I've got in the freezer

OK, so, 2 questions (especially since there are some people [like me!] only attending the afternoon do):-
1) What time meet and where for the park? Assume Hyde Park, asusme the bandstand??
2) Are we sure there are not any by-laws preventing the consumption of alchohol in Hyde Park?

It's practically *compulsory* to consume alcohol on hot sunny Saturday arvos in HP!
er, 3) Alternate venue in the (un)likely event that it's actually pissing down?

well, we could all bring umbrellas and macs and still sit in the park?
Huddle under the Albert Memorial?
Or just move to the tube station?

I'd like to come to the afternoon event but I've never been to Hyde Park before. I imagine it's quite large - is the band stand easy to find for a mere girly with no directional skills?
Also, can someone tell me the nearest tube station I should be aiming for and which line it is one.
Thanks
Liz

Hyde Park is a vast area. The nearest tube to the Bandstand is in fact Knightsbridge - don't use Hyde Park Corner unless you want a very long walk through the park. Both can be found on the Piccadilly line. You could, at a pinch, use Lancaster Gate or even Queensgate on the Central line, but as their trains keep crashing/derailing/generally behaving in life-threatening ways, you might want to give them a miss.
The Bandstand should be usefully signposted throughout the park, it's in the South-West corner (ish) of the park.

best thing I found was to look on h2g2 for previous years photos then work out who was who and who was attending this year. That way I identified Z and Abi so when I turned up at the bandstand I had the chance to recognise a few folk, see if they looked like the sort of abnormal misfits I associate with before I introduced myself. That way you can leg it if you don't like the look of people.
Band stanbd is dead easy to find!
Anyone any ideas for time? 12:00 till 3:00 and move off for silly games and taking the p*ss out of Master B?

Information about the Park: http://www.royalparks.gov.uk/parks/hyde_park/
There's a map on that page, showing the whole park with the bandstand in the bottom right corner, but for another map of the just that corner, showing the location of the Tube stations: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=528043&Y=180075&A=Y&Z=1
Though personally I'd get a bus. Much less chance of derailment etc and if you are new to London you get to see some of it. If you come into London by train, the Tube and the busses are included in the ticket and you can hop on and off all of them all day.
Central London bus map here: http://www.transportforlondon.gov.uk/buses/pdfdocs/centlond.pdf
Transport for London home page, to check for alternative ways to get around, delays, strikes, etc here: http://www.transportforlondon.gov.uk/tfl/
If anyone can't work out the bus map, then tell me where you are starting from and I'll tell you which bus to get. For example, Kings Cross to the Kensington Road right by the park (you just have to cross the road) number 10 and you get to see Oxford Street on the way. The buses come about every 10 minutes.
2 legs, you might like to include these links on the page about the meet?

I also meant to add that if anyone is thinking of staying in central London, this site can sometimes throw up some surprisingly good deals with massive discounts. http://www.londontown.com/hotels/
