h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

A small, simply-furnished room. One bed, a desk, a nightstand, a door to the shower. Heavy drapes frame the large window, pulled aside to let the sunshine in.
Lady Pennywhistle's backpack stands in a corner, half-unpacked, and some rumpled cloths lie on a nearby chair, along with an old towel. On the nightstand are several books, a pen, and a notebook titled "letters home".

*walks in and slumps on the bed*

*after a few minutes of staring at the ceiling sits up, takes off her shoes, reaches for her letter notebook and writes a few lines, before throwing it aside and resuming staring at the ceiling*

*eventually gets up and goes to take a shower and get ready for work*

*after waiting all evening for customers to show up (which they didn't), returns to the room, shoves pen, notebook, books, towel and clothes off the bed and goes to sleep*

*knocks on door from outside

Hey, it's yuvi! Can I talk w/ you a sec?

*wakes up* Huh...? Wha--who--hmm...? Yeah, I'm up, I'm up, who is it?

hey, yeah, sorry to wake you up and stuff but do you think maybe I get a room key from you? I've been camping out over the weekend and I need a shower.

*gets up quickly*

Oh, well, I apparently don't work in the reception, but we can probably figure something out... let's go down to the lobby and see if there's anybody there, alright?

Wee!

*comes in*

*sits on the bed, takes her notebook and starts writing a letter home*

*after she finishes the letter tears out the pages, puts them in an envelope and puts it aside*

*takes a shower and goes to sleep*

*takes a look at the time... *

*gets organised in five minutes and leaves for work*

*comes in for a break*

*takes off her shoes, stretches her sore shoulders and slumps on the bed*

*takes a book and begins to read*

*Flips between radio stations... this being Remembrance Day, all have nothing but sad quiet Israeli songs. Settles on one and then returns to her reading*

*Slips in, places an individually wrapped chocolate on the pillow, slips out again*

*note to self: better clean around here a bit, the floor seems slippery*

*Slips back in, shame-faced, with mop, cleans up, tiptoes out in an almost dessicated manner*

*wonders why he's being so stealthy*

*leaves note on the door*
note - "Hello, I'm Shade, your friendly repairman. Pops in, leaves a gift wrapped copy of "Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable" on the bed.

*Finds giftwrapped package on the bed and unwraps it to reveal "Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable". Eyes light up in fascination. Flips through the dictionary a little just to see what it's like.*



*Half an hour later realises she better get back to work. Gets up reluctantly, leaves the dictionary on the desk and goes out.*

*Returns to the room from town with flight tickets. Looks for a safe or something to put them in, but can't find one. Contemplates stuffing them at the bottom of her backpack before remembering there's a safe in the bar, so heads there instead*


*Walks back in a moment later to pick up her passport too, while she's at it*

*Takes a look around and is slightly shocked to realise how much like a home this place has become. Sighs as she turns to leave again, and thinks how glad she is that these are return tickets*
