Intro para 3
>>...to link the forts they established, many of the early settlements were...<<
-> ...to link the forts they established. Many of the early settlements were...
Intro para 4
>>...viae rusticae (rural or boorish/peasant roads) built... <<
. Is rustic still used as boorish? (being from peasant stock myself!)
Heading: Marcus Vitruvius Pollio
. To me, it doesn't need a heading and would be suited to the last para of your intro:
Perhaps remove the header, reword the the 1st para & move it to after the 2nd?
eg ->
Vitruvius (Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, 75 BC, to 15 BC) was a military engineer, architect and builder. What makes him important is that he wrote the De Architectura, the only Roman work on Roman architecture of the time that is known to have survived. Dedicated to the emperor Caesar Augustus, it is now known as The Ten Books and describes many Roman and Greek building methods.
Heading: Building Roman Roads
. The content is background, not about building them
. Para 1 Your footnote 1 is intriguing - How about a bit more, in the main text, as it's certainly relevant
. Para 2 >>And also consumption of luxury goods and items from other parts of the Empire also went up...<<
->Consumption of luxury goods and items from other parts of the Empire also went up...
Heading: Brekkies
. More later this evening maybe... depending on other comments?

Not a crit - The 9,000 miles of roads in Britain represented a fraction of the total of over 55,600 miles throughout the Empire stretching as far to the east as the Silk Road to China.
Bah gum, lad, that seems a lot considering the relative size of Britain innit.

Intro, para 5: un surfaced -> unsurfaced
Heading The Method Of Building A Roman Road, Stage 1, sentence 2:
This was often a job for the military engineers who used a groma to survey the route and plan the route of the road.
Perhaps ... groma to survey and plan ... ?
Stage 2: ...first the route was cleared of all obstacles, trees in the path of the road were felled...
-> ... obstacles. Trees ... any rocks or stones ...
Header The method for Roads on soft or wet terrain: large baulks of timber were laid on the ground surface, and fixed into the ground. On top of these...
Fixed how? (did they need fixing or did they just sit there & become fixed by the continuing work?)
Section Upkeep And Maintainance, para 3
The best Roman road to visit today is the found in Sutton Park in Birmingham...
-> ...is found... or ...is that found... or is it actually 'The Found' ?

That's it from me. Good luck

Good job, Bob.
In all but one place, you use the American spelling 'meter'. It needs to be 'metre'.
"construct an agger, or embangment" -> "embankment"
There are a few other bits here and there but the sub-ed can sort them out pretty easily.

Huge apologies for our absenteeism lately in this thread - we're a man down for 3 weeks. However, picking up the thread as it were, can we ask are there any more comments you would like to add to those already made. Good work all and thank you very much for your patience Bob.

it looks good to me , and is more informative than the article on Roman Roads. I see no reason for not having both articles in the EG as they are not covering the same sub-topics.

I just noticed that the link on Watling Street goes to the unedited version rather than to A24369951
