This is really nice. Why isn't it in PR?smiley - smiley

And it brought back memories. The Via Egnatia ran through Greece, and parts of it are still visible on the road between Drama and Kavala (old Neapolis), which runs past the old Roman city ruins of Philippi. Fascinating place, once you get the bus driver to let you off.smiley - laugh Genuine ancient Roman toilets, etc.

Obviously, the Romans built to last.

This is very interesting and informative. smiley - smiley I agree with Dmitri that it seems to be more suited to the EG than the AWW.

For me, the most evocative reminder of Roman rule in Britain is Hadrian's wall, near Housesteads. It's still possible to walk along by the wall and think of the Roman soldiers looking out through the drizzle, shivering and wondering whether the Scots were coming.

It appears Bob accidentally sent this to the AWW, quickly withdrew it, and put it into the Edited Guide Writing Workshop smiley - ok See F57153?thread=4989820

Perhaps I've missed it but can you say who actually did the building?

Surely not the Romans themselves, especially in conquered territory? They'd be too busy keeping the population under control.
