A Conversation for Talking Point: The Great Sweet Debate

Lower quality chocolate, but plenty of it!

The problem with sweets nowadays is that they're so easy to get. Go into any convenience store or grocery and there'll be racks and racks of cheap chocolate treats in the large economy-bar size. The candy manufacturers compensate for the low-quality chocolate by making the candy bars twice as large. This is one of the reasons why obesity's on the rise. Instead of expertly prepared foods in small portions, we have quickly prepared foods in large portions. Our appetites aren't quenched, so we end up eating more food than we really need, just to satisfy ourselves.

I've vowed to only purchase really good chocolate in small portions. I prefer dark chocolate, because I get even more of that chocolate flavor. Hershey's is all right, but for chocolate that melts in your mouth, I prefer Dove.

Heathen! I'll eat Lindt, Kaoka or Global Organics. Any flavour of Lindt, from the super-gooey Bittersweet to the 85% cocoa. The artificial flavouring in dove is horrible, whereas Lindt only use vanilla.

Completely agree about dark. I can't believe people actually mix yukky stale milk powder with their chocolate. What are they thinking?

If you're only going to purchase small, good quantities of chocolate, I suggest a trip to Belgium. The chocolate is heaven over there, I went to Bruge once and you could smell the chocolate as you were walking down the road from the chocolate shop. The chocolates just melt in the mouth. smiley - drool

You're right, Lindt is especially good. I like those truffles with chocolate cream inside.. yum.
