I hope you spent the night thinking on the implications of eating one of our feathered friends. Shouldn't you have incubated the poor things? Was salmonella among your goals? God almighty. Could get messy.

Evening Person!
To be honest, I never found out-it took four Jack Daniels to wash the taste out of my mouth, and by then I was too sozzled to test the rest of the theory...I expect eating something that wretched would put you off just about anything, but thats the joy of encountering new cultures,isn't it...

wow Doc- I ate way worse than that in Manila too. The little devils had been incubated aplenty, but they were ex-ducklings by then. As for encounters with food poisoning, I've been sick more often due to food in the wilds of London than I ever was in Manila... I suspect the people who cook there are fastidious about that sort of thing, tropical country and all- and more, if you serve somebody a dodgy kebab here, they aren't likely to voice their complaints with a gun, which was a likelihood in Manila...
Any speculations on the nutritional value of Balut?

It sure would put me off... I don't eat anything which still looks like it used to be alive. Oysters look bad enough. What is it with aphrodisiacs? They all seem to be disgusting. Next they'll get people eating camel balls like on an ad I've seen for NZ cheese.
