Actually i quite like balut, though i only eat it in the dark and i have lots of . I cannot ascertain to any degree if it works as aprho or not.

But for fast food it is nutrious, cheap and much better than Mcdonalds. Pateros is centre of the universe for balut and is worth a visit

There is a set way to eat it - first u need to take a little of the shell off the top, season to taste and drink the "soup" from the shell. Then peel the shell and eat the conventional "egg" white. Finally eat the crunchy chick.

Actually it is just a very strong egg taste, the biggest thing to get over is the sensation of eating the chick bones and all.

Now for a really tasty Philippines treat try babinking (spelt wrong but i cant remember) abnoy. This is an omlette made from bad eggs - stinky is a mild way to express it.

But i think the weird food in philippines is generally more palatable to western tastes than say Thailand or Vietnam - (both have similar treats to balut also) or, god forbid, Korea.
