As it's just happened in the northern hemisphere (or will happen in about 6 months if you're in the southern hemisphere). The solstice, druids at stonehenge, the glastonbury festival. What does it mean to you, did you do anything to celebrate this day.

Hurrah! soon we will be rid of that horrid "leaving pub in daylight" effect. It always makes me feel bad that does.

Phil Posted Jun 27, 2000
That depends if you enter the pub in daylight as well. Sometimes even, when the weather allowed, me and my friends would sit outside during the evening. Sadly now, there is nowhere to sit outside and catch some rays at the pubs I frequent

I reckon that is why pubs are open later in Scotland. To ensure that you can always leave in the dark. If you leave during daylight, you just feel like you have been on an all afternoon bender, even if you just nipped in for a quick pint after work

Now that it has passed, maybe I can get my daughter to go to sleep earlier than I do. On the other hand, there will be less time for gardening after dinner

I really like the way it's still light enough to see by closing time! I love walking around outside at this time of year - it's light enough to see for most of the night!
I always find the solistice a little depressing because it means that the days start getting shorter. And every year they do so at a faster rate than ever before it seems.

I celebrated the solstice by forgetting about it! Whoops, and I'm supposed to remember things like that. Still, they'll be another one next year.
I definitely don't like the darkness being so short, about 8 hours of darkness would suit me rather than 5 or 6, as I keep crappy hours due to my job and being adddicted to the net. Although I did go to bed at 6 am on Sunday morning and I watched the birds eating insects from my garden for about 20 mins first. It was oddly peaceful.
My son also has trouble sleeping as it is so light.
And hello IanG, do you feel a strange sense of Deja vu? LOL

But I bet you didn't know I was going to say
antidisestablishmentarianism
or pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
I didn't know until I said it that I was going to. In fact I didn't know that I could say it.

Speaking of long words reminds me of a joke.
Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath.
So, this made him what?
A super callused fragile mystic plagued with halitosis.

I've got no idea what you are talking about now, so I'd better keep quiet.

Phew! Only just made it, and I'm usually one of the first. So, what are we talking about?
Oh. Football. Makes a change.
I thought everyone would be running around with nothing on by the time I got here.
