Entry: Mike the Headless Chicken - A2264988
Author: anhaga - U215480
I was going to write an entry on this subject but found an old one by Phaedrus. Phaedrus hasn't been here in four years, so I thought it would be safe to do a few bits of touch up, provide some links, and a little bit of information. If you compare it to Phaedrus' entry, A80560 , I think you'll agree with me that my contribution is small. I do, however, think the subject is worthy of an Edited Entry.

... at last, Tony Blair's role model. A fine entry.

I agree, we need to have Mike the headless chicken in the guide. Love the writing style on this.

http://www.miketheheadlesschicken.org/images/sculpture%20z/index.htm mentions the directions to Fruita and adds 'way better than a giant ball of twine'
- possibly worth adding a link to A1170460 The World's Second Largest Ball of Twine, Cawker City, Kansas and any other American 'attractions' that have inspired edited entries.

There's already a link to miketheheadlesschicken.org in the entry. Are you suggesting that I put travel directions into the entry?
perhaps there should be a category for "wacky American tourist attractions". It would be hard to link to present and future such entries otherwise.
Due to the recently ended non-competition between Jodan and I, I don't know if I could bring myself to link to one of Jodan's articles.

Seriously, Phaedrus should get top billing. I've just touched it up a bit. And had a few nightmares.

No anhaga, I only put the hyperlink in since I realised the reference to balls of twine wasn't prominent in the linked site, and might have been missed. No need for a second link to the site.
As far as Jodan, maybe a cold war mutually assured linkage would not upset any applecarts.

A260461 is the closest I came to a general USA picture - nice blob, but no real mnetion of wacky attractions.

What are you talking about, anhaga? The competition is back on now that you've put ten plus entries in PR!
As for the entry, this is weird. Very weird indeed... and a very funny entry as a matter of fact.
Well, remember to use ‘single quotes’ instead of “double quotes”.
“What is clear is that late in 1945, perhaps in September, perhaps on the tenth. Mr. Lloyd Olsen went out to his yard to slaughter a chicken.” Should the first and second sentences here be combined? And was it on the tenth or wasn’t it?
Any information on why they named it Mike?
As I said, a very weird entry, and I hope that when this gets in the EG, it doesn’t make editor’s choice.

As I think my wording made quite clear, it is unclear exactly when Mike lost his head.
And, no, I have now information on why the chicken was named Mike. Strangely, when I first heard of Mike, his name went into my head as Bob. This made research very difficult for a time. Very, very little is recorded about the life and times of Bob the headless chicken.

Now this entry I like... I do believe you may become one of my favorite researchers. Wacky, wakcy, wacky.

Well, you later say that it's not clear why the festival is not on the tenth. That seems to me like you're being rather confident that it was on the tenth. That's just me though.

Oh. I forgot to mention that it's not clear why the festival isn't on the 29th of February or the 47th of Fwizzbang, either.

Love the research done, love the style of writing, and most of all love his article that has been submitted.

I hope I won't disappoint you, Lord Muck, but if you check my complete oevre (available on my Personal Space), you will find that I'm actually a rather stuffy serious researcher. Not at all wacky.
