Now where did this get dragged up from?
Michelangelo (I think) was asked to provide a portfolio to demonstrate competence for a commission (the Sistine chapel ceiling?).
Instead of a portfolio he simply took his (pencil?) and, freehand, drew a circle on the wall in the presence of the patron - a perfect circle...
