QI - How do you get pulled by a Zulu
Geggs Posted Apr 26, 2011
Yes, but the hovering put of a hovercraft is basiclt a big balloon, so it seemed a reasonable guess.

Well, yes, but I reckoned that they were one step removed from the flying effect. Great British invention, by the way, hovercraft. Though the Russian 'sea monster' is very clever too.

A flying fish might get pulled in by a dolphin

It's starting to sound like a rocket. It has no moving parts, but moves by its own power. Just light the blue touchpaper and hang on for dear life.

I'm starting to think waterskiing... would a 'zulu' be something on the boat that's used to attach the rope?

Hmmmm. A maglev, then? Again, there's no moving parts, but rather clever manipulation of magnetic fields.

If my memory serves, maglevs use a Zulu calllsign, because technically they are flying, but they aren't likely to interfer with normal air traffic, so got given the last possible callsign.
And you could get pulled along by being caught in the magnetic field, I guess, if you were wearing enough metal.
