What could you put in a giant thermos?....errm...
Is it 47 gallons of Bovril?
Or 3 people and a load of air?
Lots of small thermoses? Thermii?

But we've still got something to do with Oersted, electromagnetics and navigation to uncover. All I know about Oersted is that he discovered that an electric current induces a magnetic field and/or vice versa, and that he has a unit named after him ?the unit of magnetic inductance?
Not sure how this fits with navigation, but since the other two bits of the clue seem to relate directly to rocketry, is it something to do with the way the attitude jets work?

Yes hygenicdispenser!
To do with attitude jets, 'And what controls them'!!!
It is a pecialised piece of equipment that works on electomagnetic principles.
+1 for getting closer!!

Nope, engineering is a closed book to me. The only specialised (or pecialised) bit of electromagnetic kit I know of is the simple electric motor with wire wrapped round a magnet.
It's not that is it?

Sorry Mala, no...
Dewar and his vacuum flask being adapted to be a fuel tank carrying liquid oxygen has been claimed....
Advances in rocketery and electromagnetic navigation aids are to be found yet!!!
Beware the obvious klaxon in getting to the Moon!!!

jules verne , proposed men travel to the moon in a sealed vessel launched from the earth
von braun & co. , builders of the V series of rockets, nazi advanced weaponry technology smuggled away to america and used in the space race
issac newton , gravity, and the use of the sling-shot orbit, laws of motion, forevery action there is an equal and opposite reaction, the principle behind the rocket engine

Jules Verne's vessel wasn't sealed. He kept opening the windows, first to throw the dead dogs out and then for all kinds of other reasons - he assumed the atmosphere extended to the moon!

That, surely, would be a gyroscope, reporting changes in attitude.
But, those gyros just happen to be powered by leccy - they work on a different principle -?
Some gyro-like appendages (as, eg, on flies) are creature-powered and work in very similar ways to a gyro.
But then, passing on the attitude info... hmm, don't be too hasty, Rod

I knew I could depend on you Taff!!
Post 74. Von Braun was only assistant in developing V rockets. The mention of his name is a -5
Post 75. 1 DGI point for Verne info, Mala!
Post 76. Rod....Sailing close to wind before stopping yourself!!

I think the thermos flask did 'em all in.
Y'know how it is, all glass and stainless steel and airless.
So my post #2 didn't do much for you then, eh.
At least it didn't get klaxoned. Cuz it's true.
