Not that one but it's almost as weird: 9 consonants, 4 vowels.

The lake is not in Canada - almost as far from Xanada as it's possible to get without falling off the other side, but - and my this diversion has been interesting - it's has a tenuous and very tangentially relevant link to our story, but which, unless your are particularly brilliant, shall not help you towards getting the link between the 3 men and the book.

GT's research pays off
Lake Pontchartrain. +3
I'll explain why when we get to the end - and it's not at all relevant to what links 3 men and a manual, albeit except in a very peripheral way.

No.
I actually surprised given all the ground we've already covered that no-one has stitched it all together yet.I could give you all a really easy clue or would you prefer to toil on and work it out for yourselves?

What quite interesting fact links these people and object:
1) Antoine Laumet, born 1658. Son of a lawyer; educated by Jesuits; enlisted as a cadet in 1675 age 17 but fled France 8 years later.
Changed his name and his identity.
2) Chief Obwandiyag of the Ottowa Indians, born 1712.
AKA Chief Pontiac
3) Son of a Swiss watchmaker, born in 1878. Worked as a mechanic in Paris in 1898 and as a Chauffeur in Montreal in 1900.
His name was Louis Chevrolet.
4) A U.S Army Technical Manual [TM-9803]
In the TM-908 the vehicle is referred to as the Willys-Overland Truck Model MB and Ford Model GPW.
the G stood for Government The P denoted the size of the wheel base. This got synthesised to 'Jeep'
Detroit and Lake Pontchartrain both feature but are features of the story not directly related to the link.
