I'm interested in Celtic mythology - particularly Scots Gaelic mythology. One side of my family comes from the West Scottish highlands, the other from Northern Scotland I think (both 3 or so generations ago). I like being able to relate to the mythology as an inherited thing.

There is not alot around about Scots mythology - most Celtic mythology seems to be Irish. I tend to look for direct source, rather than the neo-pagan retellings.

One myth I connect with is that of Scatha - a warrior woman who taught fighting and magic to the male warriors, particularly the Irish. I'm sure there is much more to her than is commonly known.

I've also read quite a bit about the Mediterranean area older mythology - particularly its reinterpretation by feminist scholars, and its synchronicity with the development of patriarchy. In alot of those myths gender roles changed over the centuries to accomodate the cultural changes that were happening.

How about you?

I'm ..slowly..delving into it at the moment. It's always been one of the many things that I'm drawn to but have never really looked at.

I'm drawn mostly to eygyptian and celtic mythologies.I'd always felt such a draw to Isis that I was almost convinced she was the goddess that chose me..I was wrong though!

smiley - cool does that mean 'twas another? (you don't have to say which though).

I don't know that much about the Egyptian mythologies, apart from a litle bit about Isis.

Yes, it was someone else entirely that I wouldn'tve though of..
but then it tends to be reflective of the qualities we need to work on..like the witch name you take..than the ones we already have so i guess it makes sense!

Isis is still a lovey,empowering presence regardless smiley - loveblushsmiley - drunksmiley - cdouble and the in the end all the the different names and personalities are just facets of the one goddess.

Not too bad thanks... staying a long, long way from home with a friend who wants me to help out with the birth of her second child. It was due a week ago now, so any good birth thoughts you can send my way would be much appreciated! ;}

How goes it for you?
