And you're legal qualifications are...?
I'd hate to think you were passing out unsolicited and unqualified advice.
Absolutely not ashamed.
Mort - a middle aged Girl Interrupted Posted Nov 7, 2005
So many people are criticising so many other people and doing the same themselves.
A valid point was brought up by DD - that the smiley faces of h2g2 ie some Aces have been less than smiley.
Fair point - taken on board to be dealt with as the staff see fit.
This thread raised many other issues.
It gave people a place to voice there frustrations.
It gave the opportunity for the moderation procedure to be explained in detail (many times) to those who thought it didn't work; when in actual fact they had not followed it through to the next level. So the clarification was given - which it would appear was much needed since so many rearchers (including long-timers) had failed to understand it in full.
I would hope that any further addition to this thread will be of a constructive and solution based nature, or a post about raising a related issue that has not been mentioned previously.
Please take personal grumps elsewhere - there are no shortage of threads.
Mort.

Good point, Blues Shark!
I have been reading this thread, with a mixture of nostalgia, horror and amusement. It reminds me of the 'Della Wars', the same bleating, accusations and random insanity from some people... the same blinkered refusal to see anyone else's point of view.
The next target was Tig. Now Wolfden. For the life of me, I can't see what the LW haters are getting so bitter about!
Yet, there are hundreds of hate LW threads. Why? What did he ever do to the élite?

"The élite" eh?
Another lable, another name, another way of creating polarisation and a group.

Im not a member of the elite,im a member of h2g2some user/users.Should remember that the site belongs to all.Not a select few.Actions that cause disfuction is not called for.

Well actually BB I would say that hootoo belongs to the beeb and thus to none of us.
We are just graciously allowed to keep using it for free, and now that the beeb have got what they want out of it (the DNA kit, and the knowledge of how to run community websites) we should all be pretty gratefull that they continue to let us have hootoo for free.

i pay my licence,Its not free
And stop been pedantic.
Theres a user on here who constantly cause trouble without breaking the laws,As he knows the H2laws inside outside.
People along with myself are sick to the back teeth of trying to help LW to integrate with the rest.
He will never do it,he will constantly spam miss chat and ask h2.when things go quiet and he believes hes not being noticed.

I am not being pedantic BB, I also pay my licence fee.
However I think the distinction of our "user status" on hootoo is important and one which we *all* would do well to keep in mind.

Ferret,I like this place more than any place i have visited on the net.Why you may ask,Its simple it was free from bullying. What is starting to annoy me now.Its starting to rear its ugly head here aswell.
I find when you get respected you give respect back,Thats why i behave on here,
A year or so ago i was in a few arguments with 2 users by the name of saturnine an aka.I argued due to the their actions,Emailing telewest and getting digi box users banned.I was really riled at the time,as i lost a few friends.who really enjoyed this place as much as me.
It sickens me when i see people mistreating this site,LW as been brought to task loads of times,If he had an ounce of respect for this place or the people in it.He wouldnt act in the manner he does.

Do you think we haven't tried to help and understand?! Many of the people on this thread have told LW EXACTLY why he's annoying and he ignores it (or, at best, posts an apology then carries on regardless). I have seen posts explaining that Researcher X doesn't hate LW but finds behaviours A, B and C annoying as do many other researchers and he replies by saying "Why does above /\ researcher hate me?"
Della, you (like many others) clearly have only the smallest understanding of what's going on here. I suggest you do your homework before vilifying each and every one of us.
<>
Tig made himself a target, he was a troll and a bigot and such people have no place here (or on this Earth for that matter).
<>
Have you actually read any of LW's posts? Especially the ones which come after friendly advice?
<>
Really? Where?
<>
What elite? There is no elite on h2g2, there are no Researchers whose Yikes requests have more clout than others, ad nauseum.

Tig, while he may have been fine in other areas of the site, was specifically trolling in quite an abusive way on the Forum--far from being a "target", he was actually given a lot of rope by the forum regulars before anyone complained in a systematic way.
As for what LW has done, he has been consistently exasperating to an amazingly wide range of researchers: far from being an "elite", the people he's irritated range from some of the earliest members of hootoo to some of the most recent arrivals.
What has happened seems to me like the on-line equivalent of road rage--for some people, who were already in a bad humour for other reasons, LW has been the last straw that precipitated an aggressive over-reaction.

Over-reaction being the key word

I like arguing its fun sometimes and have found that exchaning ideas and sometimes veiled or not so veiled insults is just one of the things I keep coming back for.
Some dont like it some say they dont then appear on my PS doing it
If there is an elite we are an elite because we are better. So if people cant find a way of getting what they want out of h2g2 and dealing with annoyances in an effective way then that is their problem.
Oetzi was banned but it was long after the annoyance was started and even though I never wanted to see ANYONE banned I can see why somepeople want others banned. Someone wanted me banned for something I didnt even do then when it turned out that the offender was her own son she changed her mind. So it shows that slow as they are TPTB are generally fair even if some of the trumpted up comlpaints they have to deal with are made in a partisan "bullying" way.
So if the bullying isnt working and the TPTB refuse to act (different to being slow) then you have to either like it or lump it.
still loving h2

OK, I'm sorry, I really am, but I really cannot let such a comedy posting pass without showing my appreciation.

It's at this point I really, really *want* to believe she's doing it on purpose.
I can understand why you get a sense of deja vu here, Della. A user of h2g2 has irritated a LOT of others, and when told what behaviour is unacceptable and why, has bleated that it's victimisation, promised not to do it again, done it again, and gone onto premod as a result.
The interesting thing is that you apply the phrase "blinkered refusal to see anyone else's point of view" not to the offending minority of one, but instead to the offended majority - the *community* that this site is all about. Of course, your bias in this case is nothing to do with your once having *been* that minority of one. Or is it?
Perhaps this might serve as a hint that there is NOT an "elite" here. There *is* a community, with social mores above and beyond the written rules. Policing those mores is a tricky business, not one I'd fancy being in. But insistence, in the teeth of the evidence, that there's an "elite" is simply amusing paranoia. Blinkered paranoia, in fact.

I think that kind of speculation about other people's mental states is totally out of order. It is grossly intrusive--whatever you might think privately, or say in casual conversation, it's important to remember that what's said here (unless it's yikesed) stays up permanently.
