There's a very good reason for it.

Really? I was just going to ask you about that...you've got me all confused...

It's because when you write an article, that article stays with the name you had when you wrote it or last updated it. So if you change your name and later update your article, you lose the old name that was there. I'm updating articles now, and in order to keep the original name in the margin from when I wrote it, I need to keep changing my name.

OK I'll try not to get confused between the many you's then...
