That about South Afica losing the World Cup venue made it on to the evening news on NPR, Looney, but not giving the reason as you have. NPR just said that South Africa had been expecting to get it and were utterly poleaxed. Do they know whether money changed hands?

The Germans used Boris Becker and Cloudy Schiffer.

Old Charlton and the rest never stood a chance

Charlie is a relatively wealthy 85-year-old so I doubt if money was involved.

As recently as last night (NZ time) he assured the NZ and Australian Governments he would be voting for South Africa. I will keep a look out for any comments he makes.

*A follically-challenged man cringes at all this hair/fur talk*

Charlie is actually 73 not 85 as I posted earlier. Some of you may be interested in this posting from a NZ news site. The Scottish rep mentioned actually voted for Germany ahead of England.

The full story can be read at http://www.xtra.co.nz/homepage/sport/main/0,1150,Sport%3ASoccer%3EInternational%3A253432,00.html

There are claims Oceania soccer rep Charlie Dempsey was put under huge pressure ahead of his decision to abstain from a final vote, which handed Germany the right to host the 2006 World Cup.

His decision saw favourite South Africa lose its battle.

Mr Dempsey faces an Oceania meeting in Auckland on Sunday where he'll be asked to explain his decision not to back South Africa as instructed.

However, Scottish rep David Will says Charlie Dempsey felt he was put under intense pressure on the morning before the meeting and stated his intended votes before proceedings started.

Green tea? Lil, yes please.
