*Pierrot flies down and neatly slices herself another round of mbougatses*
Hi Doctor! I confess that your description of your mug got lost several threads back;please indulge me and describe it again.
*Diogenes leaps to the floor to share Anna's tuna*
The gnus are part of the scenery now -- they found the grazing in the Majic (sic) Forest, and we don't see them except when they gather after lunch to practise stampeding.
Oh, and here's your the-m-is-silent mbougatses: ----> m==

Hi Dr J, anna. All is well, apart from a lack of sleep today. I was lying in bed for about 7 hours, it is just that I only slept for about 3 and a half hours. Such is the foibles of Nightshift.
As for L*n*x, not yet. Backshift next week, so time to have a go and resolve any problems then.

Afternoon all (Friday). Loony helps himself to a delightful cup of blackcurrent tea. Settles down on the red velvet couch with the morning paper which contains a raving review of his book, Zen and the art of opening car bonnet catches. Just happening to have a copy of the book in his briefcase he draws Lil's attention to the bit in the book that describes which end of the car the motor lives at - unless you own an early model VW of course.

Hallo, everyone...*glances a bit reproachfully at Digi, who has taken up residence on the windowsill again* There you are.
Hope he's not been too much trouble for everyone; l rather assumed he'd let himself out when he felt like coming home, but l suppose he must like it here.
Hi again, Babel. Blackberry tea, please? And a bowl of strawberry-kiwi flavoured yoghurt for Digi, if you would...for some reason, that's his absolute favourite snack.

Babel17 Posted Jun 15, 2000
Hi Odradek, one blackcurrent tea and a bowl of s-k yogurt.
-------> c(~) \__/
So Digi is a he and likes the above mentioned yogurt. Lil will be pleased to know that. Though he appears to like the tuna too!
How goes it with you?

Strawberry-kiwi???? Is that the bird or the fruit. Either or, I believe they are both new species.

Hello, good crowd!
I'm glad you're here, Babel -- I'm just kind of nipping in and out. Now that it's raining regularly, I've been outside.
Looney, there was one time when I needed to open the car bonnet all by myself. Did you read my article about the young cat in my engine compartment? I believe I deleted it a month or so ago, but you might have read it before that...

could go to cool down & gather some mood juice?

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 16, 2000
If mood juice is alcoholic, you can get your needs met at the Forum and Firkin or at the CHeshire Grin Inn, which is known simply as the Grin.
Otherwise, for nonalcohol, why not ask the IIEM for mood juice and see what you get?

Babel, in NZ we call them waka-blondes (prounounced whocka). A surprising amount of the indigenous Maori people have reddy-blonde hair. Maybe the Vikings visited our shores many years ago....
Lil, alas I missed the cat story. Was it similar to the yarn about The Cat And The Hat?

Babel17 Posted Jun 16, 2000
It's funny Looney, when I was in Oz, I was amazed at the ammount of Abos with red or blond hair.
Lil, I am in and out too.
Valued Clientele if no one serves you within 10 mins, then please assume that the IIEM has satisfied your order. Thank You

Ook, please take Diogenes out onto the porch and show her how to log on to the public internet machine. I don't want her to hear this story.
*pours green tea and sips*
It happened about 5 years ago. I came out of the house while it was still darkish, intending to go to work. As I was walking to the car, I heard the call of a young cat in distress, a treed cat or a cat stuck on the roof. I looked all around, but in the dimness I couldn't make anything out on the roof of the garage or in the huge old bearded live oaks.
Well, I thought, as I got into my car, with the ruckus that cat is making someone will rescue it before the morning is old, but I must move along. I buckled in and turned the key in the ignition.
There was suddenly a horrid THUMPY-THUMPITTY-THUMP-THUMP-THUMPITTY sound as the engine started. I froze a moment then turned off the ignition again. Silence. No engine, no thumping ... and no meowing.
And as I sat there, horror-struck, I knew that I was going to have to open the bonnet.
Well, eventually I did (head averted in terror), and with the help of a flashlight I finally located the lifeless corpse, but then I was undone. I called in the local towtruck place, who charged me $35 (I still have the invoice, which says "removed cat") and laughed a lot as he moved the wheel and lifted the corpse from the bottom of the wheel well. Death had been instant for there was no blood, although the ears were worn down a bit.
Ever since then I have had no ambition to open the bonnet lid on my own. I have the car serviced by the book.

Sorry, Barley, I missed you there... I think Lil and B-17 are taking care of things, and I don't know much about teas. However...
IIEM, one tea with high caffeine content, please.
*Hands tea to Barley* Here, try this.

A bit of news, folks! Just heard over at the feedback forum that Jim has added a little workaround feature, while he was working on taming the 'quakes'. If you add ?latest=1 to a thread, it will take you to the last page of posts in the thread. So for this particular thread, it would be: http://www.h2g2.com/F26140?thread=58448?latest=1 This should help a lot! :-)
