Rae the bit about 'knockers' IMO, a genuine 'blooper' is something entirely unintentional. Having seen the video clip, I think Simon Groom knew what he was saying, but said it anyway. Hence it's not a genuine blooper, but something very contrived.

If I were you, I'd miss it out smiley - 2cents

Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry!

smiley - cool Looks good.

I'd keep the bit about the knockers in, but that's only because of my puerile sense of humour smiley - biggrin.

Hmm, what about using a different word than 'bloopers'?

Hi Elentari,

I think you should explain why it's cvalled 'York Minster' and not York Cathedral

Ref this section:

'The first change to be made was the construction of the North and South transepts. These were not completed until after Gray's death, but were followed in 1291 by the beginning of the building of the Nave which took a huge seventy years to complete. After this attention turned to the East end of the Minster where the Quire and Lady Chapel were built, which was quickly followed in 1407 by the collapse and subsequent rebuilding of the central tower of the cathedral. The tower was not complete until 1433, a sign of how long such complex craftsmanship took in the medieval period. The final major piece of construction was the Western towers, completed in 1472'.

> I think you should therefore inclue an overarching sentence to say that York Minster is mainly 13th-15th Century.

I think it's a pity to degrade such a fine Entry with that artless anecdote about 'knockers'. smiley - 2cents If you have to include it, bury it somewhere deep in the Entry, not right at the end, which will colour every readers impression of this Entry.

I agree. I'm waiting for info, but I might do a little digging myself. smiley - smiley

I will add that bit about the construction.

Personally, I thought the knockers thing gave it a little colour, because it came accross a bit dry to me. What does everyone else think?

Thanks for reading, BigAl! smiley - biggrin

My dictionary describes a minster as "a large or important church, typically one of cathedral status in the north of England that was built as part of a monastery".

The monastery bit seems quite important according to dictionary.com.

I'll add it as a footnote.

Yes, I seem to remember helping someone with the definition of 'minster' in connection with one of the Dorset Entries. I thought it was St Mary's Church, Wareham, but I couldn't find it there. Wimborne alsoi has a minster, but that Entry doesn't have the definition either.

Leave it in, but perhaps clarify that it maybe wasn't entriely set-up. As mentioned, gives it a bit of *tee hee hee* smiley - winkeye

I'll continue to differ, much as I smiley - love (smiley - disco/\smiley - disco) smiley - boingsmiley - boing IRL smiley - winkeye.

I just fee that it goes too far down the route of trivia, especially (IMO) the thing was contrived and wasn't a genuine unwitting gaffe smiley - 2cents
