Hey, that's what I get for reading the Hitchhiker's Guide more times than I can count.
Wow
El Presidente Posted May 17, 2000
That is a fact which is hard to ignore, due to the omnipresent logo in the upper left corner. Duh.

True. All I know is I found out about this through the Douglas Adams website. It makes me wonder how all these other people have read this book(or at least heard of it), when practically no one I know has even the faintest idea of what it is(or, much to my dismay, any need to read it).

I heard about it when it started up- on the Big Breakfast I think- but, in my sadly internet-less state I could only dream of registering. Then, when I got the Net earlier this year, I found out that two friends were already registered so I did too. And so began some of the most fun I've had for ages
I agree, I reference THHG all the time and get blank looks (almost as much as when I say Death talks in capital letters). It still irks me that people just disregard it as "stupid sci-fi". I know that it's no War and Peace but it still has a lot to say.
Plus, it makes me LOL- something I rarely do at books

El Presidente Posted May 22, 2000
Plus, what other book contains anything like my favorite chapter of all, Chapter 9 of the first in the series(i.e. the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy itself)? Look it up!
Wow
El Presidente Posted May 26, 2000
Okay, fine. Here's a "hint"*: It's the part where Arthur and Ford are trapped inside of the Infinite Improbability Drive. Probably my favorite(note the oh-so-American spelling) line: "Ford, you're turning into a penguin. Stop it."
*By "hint", I mean "plot summary".

I feel cheated from an entertainment experience because I have not heard, nor do I have any way to HEAR, the original radio show. I guess I'll just have to settle for the movie(there IS a movie, right? When's it coming out? I saw it on SOME site, once, a while ago).
Wow
Archangel Tweetie (01/06/02...) Posted May 26, 2000
Yup, the script's finally been finalised Now there's only the problem of who to cast...
How come you can't get hold of the recording? Oh, hang on. Do they not sell them across the pond? Cos that would be shitty in a major way

I could find it somewhere online and ORDER it, but otherwise I don't think any store 'round here would have any clue as to what I mean when I say "HHG radio show", even if they've read the book! Ah well, such is the life of a fan of good British humour(note the totally Brit spelling) in a place where "good British humor(note the totally non-Brit spelling)" to most means Benny Hill. May I say, "Ewwwwwwwww".
El list de British humour(totally Brit spelling):
HHG
Monty Python
Red Dwarf
Whose Line is it Anyway?
Rowan Atkinson(but NOT, I repeat, NOT as Mr. Bean!)
This list is entirely NON-comprehensive, but hey, off the top of my Yankee head, it's not bad.
List of things that are both funny and British, but not necessarily humour:
The royal family
Those big fuzzy royal guard hats
The words pram, lift, lorry, loo, etc.
Saying "Zed" instead of "Z"(is that one even British? I don't know, but I heard it someplace)
and finally...
Oasis. ::shudder:: Unless you LIKE Oasis.
So, how many people did I accidentally offend? Disclaimer: I am a stupid uneducated American who cannot help it if he is culturally un-diverse. All this from the fact that it would be tough to find the HHG radio show around here. My mind works in some oddball ways. Somebody please tie my hands so I stop writing already! I can't believe you've even made it from the top of this post to the bottom without passing out! You'll just have to hope I get a hand cramp or something.

Ok, who's been feeding you caffeine?
How much are we alike:
I HATE Mr Bean with a fiery passion, but I love Rowan Atkinson, especially as Blackadder. Plus, every one of the shows you listed, I'm a big fan of.
Grrr, one thing I *do* hate about you Americans is the Zee thing. It's Zed. And it always will be.
Sorry, rant over. No, I hate Oasis. Actually, I'm more into music from your country, I just wish it was easier to find over here.
Oh, and Benny Hill should have been shot at birth.

Is he dead yet? Or can we go to his flat(there's one I missed) and put him out of his(and everyone else's) misery?
The Z thing: Okay, look at it this way, if lots of other letters end with an "ee"(a,b,c,d,e,g,p,t,v), then why wouldnt Z be the same? If Z is Zed, why isn't it Aed, Bed, Ced, Ded, Ed, Ged, Ped, Ted, and Ved? Because A.) That's just silly, and B.) All the Eds and Teds of the world would have a horrid time learning their ABC's! Not to mention that mothers would be telling their children to "go to B", and people will tell their enemies, "I wish you were D", and chaos would reign supreme! Ahahahaha!!!
::sigh:: ...All done. So, what else? What music ARE you into then, if not the 24-hour drunk antics of the brothers Gallagher(is that how you spell it?)?
By the way, I have just noticed that I did not use any periods to end my sentences in the above Zed rant("A.)" and "B.)" do not count). Such is the mark of either a creative writer, or a totally insane, question-asking, exclamating guy.

Wonder which one you are....
Ok, now that was the most amazing display of non-logic I've seen for a looooong time. Have you actually opened a black hole next to your computer yet?
Music- Green Day, Blink 182, a band called Four Star Mary and another called Matchbox 20, for starters. I tend to find new bands via film soundtracks etc, which explains why I'm into the obscure (over here at least) US bands.
Although, I like pretty much any music, with the notable exception of country- I've never been in enough pain to appreciate it
Wow
El Presidente Posted May 27, 2000
Only one of those bands is obscure: Four Star Mary. The other three are well known(is that supposed to have a hyphen, and did I just spell hyphen correctly?) over here, however you must know I HATE Matchbox 20. You may hate me now if you like, but I shall stand my ground. Film soundtracks, eh? Ever seen Angus? Or even so much as HEARD of it? If not, I'm not surprised, since not a whole lot of people I know have heard of it either. If so, it's one of my most fave movies of all time, and it has a great soundtrack(with Green Day on it coincidentally). Obscure US bands is my area of expertise, since you may have noticed my hatred of current pop. Ever heard of Toad the Wet Sprocket(their name is from the liner notes of a Monty Python album oddly enough)? As for country, PAIN is not the key ingredient to liking it. The only criteria is you have to have A.) no taste and B.) ancestory from redneck territory. And an IQ of 2 doesn't hurt either.
Key: Complain about this post
