Q.: Are DelphicOracle and myself the only vegetarians in the bar? Looks like I'm going to have to root out my chef's hat. Be afraid. Be very afraid. I do a good line in Brown. However, if The Oracle's past experience here is anything to go by, I'm going to have to find something more imaginative than Quorn to go in it. Well, two years of student cooking always makes you go for the easy option. Todays dinner? Macaroni cheese, leeks & mushrooms on toast, yoghurt and one of the girls from the Drama society (if only...)

Well, I am nothing if not a demanding customer. Where are the roast aubergine and goat's cheese filo parcels with a tomato concasse and light pesto dressing, eh?
Failing that, I'll have the macaroni cheese. And are there any boys in the drama society?

I'm glad someone other than me has fallen for that

How about apple and redcurrant "mince" pies. they are delicious with or without cream.
The Servery
AEndr, The Mad Hatter Posted Nov 19, 1999
there is also a recipe for gooseberry, apricot, redcurrant and blackcurrant ones, but I haven't tried it yet.
I also have some plain apricot mini pies here, if you would like to try one now? but you'll have to have a "broken" one, as the others are for the fundraiser.
The Servery
AEndr, The Mad Hatter Posted Nov 19, 1999
you could also try the imperfect (ie not to be sold at the fundraiser) apple and cinammon, gooseberry, apple and strawberry and peach ones

*salivates*
My sister tried making mince pies with polos in one year. Quite nice hot. (reserve judgement cold...)
Delphic, yes there are men in the Drama society. Only five, though. I'm doing 2 parts in this year's show as a result, which is difficult!

Mad Hatter puts plate of various flavoured not-perfect pies out on servery for all to try.
the only reason they're "not perfect" is because they boiled over or broke coming out of the tin or otherwise can't be sold in the fundraiser.
Mad Hatter also provides double cream, custard, home made vanilla ice cream and a microwave, so that visitors to the servery may have them served as they like.

For dinner tonight:
to start is a simple leek and potato soup for the cold winter evenings, served with freshly made white and brown bread rolls
For the main course, we have chicken and mushroom pub-pie - a pastry lid pie containing chicken, button mushrooms, peas and carrots in a red wine gravy
served with your choice of boiled new potatoes, white cabbage, brocolli, carrot, onion, green beans and optional extra gravy
the vegetarian option is a vegetable pie, filled with peas, sweetcorn, carrot, parsnip, lentil, onion and green beans in a similar red wine sauce.
dessert of the day is peach crumble, served with custard, cream or homemade vanilla ice cream.
