Yup, it's that man Paul again. Jesus went for more wishy-washy stuff about "Love your enemy."

Hey, mine host? Is this Feline & Fiddle name permanent, then?

I think it was going to be "The fairy and falcon also featuring the feline and fiddle"

You'd think that would be the FC&M society bar.

Omigosh I've just noticed the time. Musht've dozed off.
Sorry Menza, but the you poured Oct 18 2001 seems a bit off. Don't mean to be fussy, landlord, but could I have a fresh pint?
I've been on holiday (well I've been on work, actually) and I've completely lost track of time. A year ago I was harpin' on at you about why it was taking so long to find a new name for the pub. Feline and Fiddle? I think my 'F'n Firkin' had a nice ring to it. As well as all the other fine suggestions I made. Oh well.
I don't want to change the world. I'm just looking for new...
So I've taken a sabbatical for the last year to apply myself to searching for a new name for the f'nf. You'll be happy to hear that I have had no great ideas whatsoever. (At least not if we discount 'The Wanged Wellie'.)
So, I'm reduced to analysis. (Hey, that sounds almost...profound...)
May I have please? and one for yourself, of course, mate.

OK, as usual no-one is here and I'm pleased to be my server for the evening.
Now, I know I don't have sufficient ducats, Tip-Ex, unmarked notes or Tinkerbell's charm to sway anyone away from the Feline and Fiddle (noting, however, that the Cat and the Fiddle is a pub in Californ-i-ay), but:
What is the pub for? A world-wide forum for conversation and social drinks (hence the original name). (As you can tell from my chronic poor timing , I ain't (currently) residing near the Prime Meridian.) I don't think Feline and Fiddle reflects this function. Nor, sorry, does Fairy and Falcon with any additions or otherwise.
I brainstorm:
The Globe and Goblet?
The Far-flung and Free?
The Globe and Mail? (Well, that's a Canadian newspaper.)
The Free Press? (A Cambridge favourite.)
The Freedom?
The Free from Firkins?
The Freedom Forum.
The Free-for-All.
The Freedom From-um?
The Freedom's Arms
The Free Globe/Free Globe Forum/Flat-Earth Forum/??
The Forum and Gryphon (sort of a Feline/Falcon compromise?)
The Gryphon?? (or Griffin, if you prefer)
The Foreign and Gripin'?!?
Sorry, I always talk too much when I've got my insides outside of the insides of too may s.
cheers to all, (for another year??)

Stop sulking, you were just awake in the morning which is unknown thing for most of us
Oh and I wouldn't really say that I had charm, more that I have music which I knwo menza doesn't like and I'm capable of playing it at him But anyway, I think that the fairy and falcon is a fantastic name!

Why thank you for the , Tinkerbell.
And indeed you do have charm, as must any lass who buys me an without first asking a favour, such as "Please sir, refrain from playing your flute in these premises, or within a mile of this place".
Yes I do tend to be awake in your morning. Maybe we should meet for breakfast? Oops... that could be taken the wrong way.
I've 'ad another thought (getting up to my quota for this year, and it's only November). On a recent trip to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, home of the..., the..., well the Rough Riders football (that's CFL) team, amongst other things I'm sure, but just can't think of them right now, I did come across a pub called the "'something' and Flagon". So, I thought (this is the same thought as the afore-mentioned thought and so does not count), I thought of another potential name (for God's sake, end this now Menza so that I may rest): The Forum and Flagon. Or, perhaps easier, The Flagon and Forum.
English Heritage: Flagon: Container with a handle, spout, and narrow neck (not unlike myself, now that I think about it).
King James' Bible: '... and love flagons of wine.' (Hosea 3:1) (don't worry about the beginning of the verse, it's less virtuous).
Cheers all,
~LD
My turn.

Oh, one final thought Tinkerbell - you like the "Fairy and Falcon" and I have a couple of GREAT ideas for a pub sign. First, a fairy soaring throught the clouds on the back of a fine, brave Falcon. Second, a fairy clutched in the claws of a fine, brave, hungry, Falcon.
Whatcha think?

*thanks Latch for the *
I don't know, it appeals to my more awkward and cynical side... we could claim we were being postmodern as nobody would challenge it then?
OOOOOOOh!!! I've got it!!! The oerfect name and I'll even volunteer to pose for the sign! The Fairy in Ferrari! Genius! I'll dress in my ferrari gear and drive round in a Ferrari all day and it'll be fantastic!

Well it's not like he's ever going to win anything, he's unlikely to miss it, besides I'd probably be more entertaining...
