I read recently that many asteroids are really just loose collections of smaller rocks bound together by their comon gravity. In fact, some have densities so low that there must be voids within them.
Kind of ruins the popular image of these huge tumbling space boulders, doesn't it?

Actually, the only reason asteroids get any press is because people seem to be attracted to danger...
