It was from Permanent Waves.
Your second one is from the Levellers, Captains Courageous.
The first one reminds me of something else with the line
"Jack Flash, rocket man, Sergeant Pepper and the band
Ziggy, Benny and the Jets"

Oh and my other one from ages back was Alabama 3 (A3) with Woke Up This Morning (as featured on the Sopranos soundtrack)
"When you woke up this morning everything was gone,
by half past ten your head was going ding dong"
Great tune!

Phil got the Levellers one OK, and yes those lyrics do seem similar, it's the sort of string of words sort, along with "Road Crew" by Motorhead.

Points awarded to C Hawke for the Rush song, and now I'll accept points from Phil for "Rocket" by Def Leppard, from the "Hysteria" album, 1988.
So you say my singing's out of time
It makes me money
And I don't know why
I don't know why

Just a guess, but is the last one "So you say my singing's out of time
" from "Cum on feal the noise" by Slade?

Right song, but I can't be sure about the band... never heard of them. That's not to say Slade didn't do a remake, or vice-versa, but I was referring to Quiet Riot, from the Mental Health album, circa 1982.
One of my favorite lyrics ever:
There are no unbeatable odds
there are no believable gods

Phil Posted Oct 2, 2000
Slade did the original of Cum on Feel the Noise
"Cracked eggs, dead birds
Scream as they fight for life
I can feel death, can see its beady eyes"

Your showing your age there Colonel, but come to think of it I probably first heard it on the Quiet Riot LP. But I had completely forgotten the band as well as the fact that somewhere I have a tape of the LP.

Is that Rush? As in who? as in "my god, I'd forgoten about the canadians (I am right here aren't? they were canadians?) or Rush? as in I don't believe the lyric was theirs?

Rush are/were a canadian trio correct C. Hawke.
Any more comments on mine?

C Hawke Posted Oct 4, 2000
You mean the-
"Cracked eggs, dead birds
Scream as they fight for life
I can feel death, can see its beady eyes"
No idea sounds very depressing - The Smiths? (only joking) Some sort of 80s thrash metal band maybe?

Yep that's the one, nice and happy isn't it
the lyrics continue...
"All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole
And fade out again and fade out again"

C Hawke Posted Oct 4, 2000
It's not from The book of common prayer or is it a Psalm?
I honestly have no idea.

Well, nobody seems to be getting my last one, so it's "I Just Want You" by Ozzy Osbourne... released within the last couple of years. And I don't know any of these other ones either... so... moving right along...
99 dreams I have had
and every one a red balloon
Here I am and I'm sittin pretty
In the dust that was a city
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
And here it is, a red balloon
I think of you and let it go
Bonus points if anyone can give me two or more artists who've done it.

The last lines in my song are
"Immerse your soul in love
IMMERSE YOUR SOUL IN LOVE"
as for any more clues, the band are getting a fair bit of exposure right now.
Colonel an I allowed this one as we've discussed it elsewhere on this site

Phil Posted Oct 21, 2000
Colonel, as no-one else has answered your posting I will.
The song is 99 Luft Ballon (99 Red Ballons is the english translation) by Nena and a cover has been done by Goldfinger.
A quick throw away point
"Nothing to get hung about"

D'oh! I guess I can't answer this now.
Perhaps it's time I posed one again... let's see...

Oh yes you can answer it (why else did I put it there )
But this is For No One...
