Sick of the strong and stable leadership mantra already.

So the problem to vote JC is that he lacks charisma, communication skills... ? What about his programme?

Nah, lets keep Tories in power http://www.thecanary.co/2016/11/29/a-horrifying-law-just-passed-in-the-uk-and-its-turned-us-into-a-world-leading

If you are told often enough they hope you will believe them. Scotland is restless and will very probably split.
The irish are looking for a strong border but If you believe the south will hold the immigrants (at their own expense) to stop them flooding into the shrunken UK, you will be mistaken, a land border is much easier to cross. They will just walk round the ends of the fence at low tidesmiley - laugh

We can't the brexit voters they were mislead, but if they vote for the current government, then they are culpable for the mess that will result.

Something strange happened last week. For the first time, the candidate I voted for in an election actually won. It was a local election for the county council. We decided to vote tactically and chose the guy from the Residents Association, as there was also a planning referendum being held at the same time. He actually unseated the Tory candidate, in Surrey, which was a remarkable achievement.

Overall, the Tories retained Surrey - they even increased their majority, picking up 3 UKIP seats, but this result goes to show that they can be defeated. Careful tactical voting can work.

Now to unseat Jeremy Hunt smiley - smiley

Just an idle thought about today's French election results...

As I'm listening to the news I've heard a few references to a hypothetical "Frexit" had Le Pen won.

Wouldn't be more of a "Frortie"?

BG, since the adjective goes after the noun, it might have been Sortif, but that sounds a little too much like the familiar word for a bra
smiley - eureka ...which would actually make sense if you're going to make a boob of yourself as a country.

Also, English is so much more modern and international, which is exactly what you want if you're going to curl up on yourself as a country...

smiley - shrug I gave up trying to make sense of it a long time ago.

Sortif sounds like the result of a political dicussion with John Prescott:

Oh, and to answer swl, it's very unlikely indeed that we'll unseat Jeremy Hunt. He got 59.6% of the vote - a 28,556 majority last time. He'll presumably pick up UKIP's 10% next time too.

It wasn't always like this. We got within 861 votes of toppling his predecessor, another Health Secretary, Virginia Bottomley in 2001.

But I'm not sure the NHS candidate can win here. One thing South West Surrey isn't short of is hospitals - we're close to both Frimley Park and Royal Surrey, and there's a shiny new non-A&E in Farnham, as well as plenty of private ones for the rich Tories. It's going to be difficult persuading the voters here that there's a crisis in the NHS.

But they have to try.

You would think the US would provide ample enough example of what happens when you have a privatized, for profit health system to convince voters to support the NHS. smiley - facepalm

Just as a possible indicator for the General Election, in the local elections last week here in the People's Republic of North Lanarkshire we now have 10 Conservatives on a 77 seat council, and in this ward the Conservative candidate received almost a quarter of first preference votes. We have all stepped through the Looking Glass.
