A Conversation for The Quest for a Free Lunch
Try before you (don't) buy

Many supermarkets now offer a 'try before you buy' service on things like their fresh salad counters. Go to the salad counter, ask the assistant to allow you to 'try' some salad items, repeat until full or the assistant becomes suspicious (in which case it is usually a good idea to buy a small amount of salad).
Pick & Mix

Pick & Mix is notoriously the most expensive method of buying sweets, since you're paying for the weight not the quantity. The trick is to go for light sweets (like cola bottles and flying saucers) and to pay for each sweet individually.
This is likely to get you in trouble with the management, even though really there is nothing stopping someone from doing this.

Hey, doesn't Jamie Oliver actively promote this exploitation on a Sainsbury's ad? Does this mean we're actually ENTITLED to a free meal at the salad counter?!
