It's a good start on a large and complex subject.
You're well on the way, though. You need a bit of feedback in each of the areas you've written about, and I'm sure people will be along in due course.
I've visited the Dales a few times, and it's certainly as beautiful as you describe. Many people in the UK will remember the images from the 1970's TV adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small, as Christopher Timothy drove that car up and down the winding lanes. The books were pretty descriptive too, of course.
A couple of places spring to mind that you haven't mentioned - Ilkley Moor, and that brass band number with the strange lyrics.
One of my Yorkie mates describes it as God's Own Country (that is until I point out how well Leeds United are doing this season)
Should the Tan Hill Inn appear in your pubs section (or is it too far north?)

Very good.
Whenever I think of the Dales the first thing I think of are the drystone walls, climbing up 1:2 slopes and disappearing over the hills and into the mist. I think of Pen-y-gint in the mist when everywhere else is in sunshine. I think of the Ribblehead viaduct and that monument to Victorian engineering and spirit, the Settle -Carlisle line. I think of the streams and bridges, packhorse bridges, railway bridges, road bridges, and waterfalls. I think of glacial morraines and sheer drops and gentle slopes and surprising lakes. I think of the sheep, that watch you as these strange beings tramp across their living room, watching wall-eyed, with slitted pupils.
I guess there's a lot you could say, but it would take forever, but I'd like a little more passion.

Hi ubernorman. I see that you've attempted to put this into GuideML. It looks a bit strange, and the reason is that you haven't used the standard GuideML that we use for our Entries. Can you please make the following changes?
1. Remove anywhere you use it.
2. Put at the start of every paragraph and at the end of every paragraph.
3. Use rather than for headers.

Hi Ubernorman!
I am not awfully clever at making constructive comments; so please accept my apologies in advance, if I cause un-intended offence.
I enjoyed your entry; but would have happily carried on reading if it were to contain more in depth information about some of the places you wrote about. I also wonder if there might be room for some others; which I am fairly sure are in that area, such as perhaps:
Middleham and Richmond castles, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Darley Mill, White Scar Cave, Hawes Ropemakers, Howstean Gorge and the Cove Centre. What about Wensleydale cheese?
I know very little about most of the above; but as you obviously do, it would be nice to learn more through your entry.
There also needs to be some tidying up with spelling and grammar; but I don’t want to be pedantic. In fact, I’m going back to read it again.
Good entry.

Good start ubernorman!
I particularly liked the rock band analogy
Bit of geology quibble:
'The hardy slate juts out in faults around the more easily eroded limestone to provide probably the most spectacular features in the dales (for example perregrin festooned Malham Cove), and with them a geologist's and rock climber's paradise. '
Not quite:
Malham Cove is the obvious face (or scarp) of the geological fault, in this case the Middle Craven Fault. The slate doesn't 'jut out' of the faults: the vertical movement on the fault has juxtaposed the two different types of rock, it raised the Carboniferous limestone, relative to the shales and slates of the lower 'Craven Basin' to the south.
For a visual guide: http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk/current/kennedy/maps/index.php?i=2
- a nice map from 1892(! I couldn't find a more recent one that quickly) the blue northern half is the limestone, the southern greys and greens the younger slates etc. The white lines are the faults, and the yellow is (probably) mineralised veins.
The fault zone hosts a lot of mineralisation including galena (lead), calamine (zinc and iron oxide), barytes (barium), sphalerite (zinc) and azurite (copper). Plus there's the quarrying of the limestone - both mining and quarrying were important parts of the industrial heritage of the area.
Sorry for the lecture, I'll leave the spelling. It's a good start to what could be a great entry.

Sorry, I didn't get anywhere with it. Some thought it too flowery and I couldn't find a way of grounding it.
Would anyone like to take it over?

I was browsing through the Flea Market looking for anything I could take on later in 2012 (usual problem - lots of articles about things and places I've never heard of and places I've never been) when I saw this one, and I though I've been there! I'm thinking of doing the Yorkshire Dales bike ride! (Haven't yet, though). I would consider taking it on in the spring, but not at the moment.
