New WOTDs

Yeah, there was an element of sarcasm to that last comment, but it's kind of difficult to emphasise that in text. In case you're interested, and anyone who isn't should skip this comment and go somewhere more wholesome, coprophilia is the act of gaining sexual pleasure / gratification from the use of excrement, be it human, animal or whatever. I believe this can be by eating it direct from the source, which is known as a dog's egg, but also the old glass coffee table trick falls into this definition. There's plenty more where that came from, but I hope no-one's too interested.

There's Klismaphilia, which I think is being turned on by statues.

Oh, there's mounds of words for sexual acts and perversions. I don't really want to go into details right here, but you might like gunzel (n), gugusse (n), intromission (n), irrumate (v), pedicate (v) [and no, it has nothing to do with feet], fricatrice (n), macro- and microphallism (n), macro- and micromastia (n), feague (n and v) [it has many meanings, so if you look it up and find nothing interesting, try a better dictionary], and artamesia (n), an interesting word coming from the Greek for 'to hang in the middle'.

Some less repelling words are:
franion (n) - a promiscuous man
bedswerver (n) - a wonderfully descriptive word for an unfaithful spouse
apodyopsis (n) - the act of imagining someone naked
beslobber (v) - to cover with something running from the mouth (use your imagination)
agrexophrenia (n) - the inability to perform sexually due to fear of being overheard (yes really)
cypripareunia (n) - the act of being a prostitute's client, to put it nicely; it's a fun thing to try to charge to expenses when on a business trip (or should I not have said that)
agastopia (n) - the act of admiring a part of someone's body

This could keep the WOTD going for ages. Perhaps someone (not me) should start a WOTD dedicated to words for the more mature. Here's a few to start you off smiley - winkeye

My dad's a teacher, and when he sets lines for students, he makes them as long winded as possible. If he catches someone chewing gum in class, he tells them that mastication in class is strictly prohibited. Always gets a laugh smiley - smiley

Why are phobias such a rich source?

Anyway, one of my favourites is Teutophobia, the fear of Germans and German things.

Phobias are so nice because there are so many, and many of them are quite funny.
A few new words then:
lant (n) - stale urine, used in manufacturing, also
lantrify (vt) - to moisten with urine. Don't ask what this word is useful for.
lapidable (adj) - worthy of being stoned (or 'lapidated').
But why wasn't the WOTD updated after the long weekend?

I was wandering about that - is Anna on holiday perhaps?

Possibly, but maybe she has been put off by this huge selection of words to choose from. I'm beginning to feel like W.C. Minor. smiley - smiley
Of course, she may have been repelled by all of the slightly disgusting words in these postings.
Are you there, Anna? If so, please make your preferences known. I don't want to be reduced to using a weegee board...
I don't know though, I might try it.

Here's a long one -
Floccinaucinihilipilification.
- it's the longest word in the English language (that isn't medical), as it has 29 letters. I forget what it means, but it's something like 'worthless'... Ironic, huh?

i nominate 'esurient'.

It means ravenously hungry and thus is frequently useful especially for male teenagers.

What a cool word! I must remember that...

And I thought possibly 'television' as it is rapidly being replaced by 'TV' and 'telly' and 'The Box' and all sorts... television seems set to disappear soon...

Is 'Floccinaucinihilipilification' acceptable?, I'm not certain of its exact meaning, but I seem to recall it having to do with describing something as worthless or a waste of time
Might I suggest 'Etymology' at the same time?

I thought a palindrome was for riding on the back of an elephant.
It should be.
And spellbound ought to be 'being prevented from writing, by the hands being tied together'.
Nomenclature should be the unit of measurement for garden gnomes.

One wonders why they need a word for this. I think I'd rather not know.

catamite - a young boy kept for homosexual purposes.
