The one word that I will forever remember is "hippotomonstrosesquipedalian". It means "pertaining to a very, very long word.

Actually I've been scrolling through the list and have found that someone got to "Hippomonstroblahblahblah" before me. I shall therefore propose "comiconomenclaturist" for your reading pleasure. It means "someone who collects funny names". I found this quite ironic because that's what I do for a hobby. I got the term out of "The Wordsworth Book of Intriguing Words" which is a must for any language freak like me.

We prefer to make up our own words using Scrabble and good old imagination.

Jelifa - A fat, lazy person

Fattle - A once attractive woman spoiled by unplanned children and having to live on a council housing estate.

Iguanadon! An extinct (of course) dinosaur that had a sail-like structure on it's back. Quite a lot of things in the world can be described as iguanadon-like. And like all dinosuars they had miniscule brains, much like several people we all know.

Got a couple of "symbols of an idea used in speaking":

punctate - spotted, marked with points or punctures;
tessellated - divided into squares, checkered;
tertian - occuring every 3 days

And having read through some of the earlier forum entries, if you liked the sound of the words sextiply and masticate, you might also like the word formicate (NOT fornicate). It means a sensation as if small insects were crawling on the skin.

Or "ferrule" - the tip of an umbrella.

Prostrate v's Prostate always seems to be popular. So many people talk about the prostrate and prostrate problems.......does this mean they have trouble getting up (getting it up) in the mornings??? Probably, but I don't think that's what they're talking about!

One of my favourites has always been "calumny", mainly because I can only think of it being said after the word "gross" and in an indignant tone of voice by a man with a large moustache. (and yes, most English words conjure up such detailed pictures in my mind).

Another real picture painter is "priapic". The opposite of "masticate" in that it sounds perfectly innocent until you find out what it actually means...

An excellent one which I'm not sure exists is "periphrastic".

I'm surprised no-ones put that old classic, Antidisestablishmentarianism, although Antidisestablishmentarianismically is that bit better. And I've even got the definition:

'In the manner of one who is opposed to the disestablishment of the Church of England'

And while I'm on the subject of words, check out http://www.h2g2.com/A182765
