I'm not sure I see any point in voting, as - knowing the denizens of this site as I do - either LOTR or Hitchhikers will inevitably win.
But, for the record, my favourite book in the list is - To Kill A Mockingbird.

I agree with your prediction there B.
The first was a book I tossed to one side reckoning that there were better things to do with my life - I was about 13 at the time. The second, well that was done *SO* much better on the radio - and oddly I was about 13 when I made that decision also
Your choice, yes that would be in my top three out of this list of 21.

I despise Tolkein. Hate hate hate hate hate him. Although I retain a grudging respect for the films, it doesn't mean I want to see them again. The only book on the list I hate more than LOTR is Wuthering Heights.
I've made myself clear many times on site (to the disgust of the Researchership in general) that while Hitchhikers is an amusing book, I don't think it is particularly well-written, or a classic in any sense.
Yup, Mockingbird for me, although I'd be happy to see Catch 22, Rebecca, Winnie The Pooh, or 1984 win as well.

None of my favorite titles are on the list, actually.
So for me, it's rather like "If you were forced to pick one of these as your favorite books, even though you never would in real life, which one would you pick?"

My favourite book in the list is - 1984
Very hard choice though, there are several books on the list that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and rereading. Feeling disloyal for not choosing HHGTTG but it was the radio version I liked best and it's not my favourite DNA book anyway...
