Once upon a time I had a boss. Asking for some "concrete informations".

You must know that "detailed" in German means "konkret" and Germans use the plural of "information".
I dared to ask if he´d love to have some folders of the local concrete producers

Well, I know a registered but overworked researcher, a former colleague of mine. Nicest American outside the US.

I like him very much and he for sure has some spontaneous stories to tell if you walk along him....

First one:
Reading the green gernan "Notausgang"-Box above the emergency exit.
The word consists of "Not" (emergency) and "Ausgang" (exit).
At that time he already knew exit/Ausgang. He read that and said "of course that is NOT (---->"Not") a usual Ausgang, it is an emergency Ausgang !!!

Another one:
I wanted to give him credits for a work he did for me. His answer was kind of logical, but a lovely funny one, too:
"No timething".

He learned the german "Keine Ursache", which means "not a reason to thank me at all...", short: "you are welcome".
He translated literally "Ursache", mixed it up with "Uhr" and "Sache", which means "clock" and "thing", drew the conclusion that if the Germans say "Keine Ursache", they want to express that it didn´t take time to do the favor and said "No timething"....

Very logical in a way !!!!!!!

My favorite, in the time honoured German tradition of concatenating lots of words rather than go to the trouble of thinking of a new one, is Strassenbahnhaltestelle (tram stop). Which IIRC translates to Street-train-stopping-place!
