I have an idea
I think it would be fun to give virtual gifts to each other here - I am wondering on how, though
Posting a link with picture(s) of the announced gift to someone will make it very nice I think
It will be nice, too, to be able to give each other gifts even though we may live oceans apart
What do you say? Shall we?
Just as an example, I would like to give to HooToo this lovely Christmas tree:

Look! It's still alive!

I'm giving Lanzababy a nice weighing scales for her kitchen, one of those balance types, with a brass bowl on one side and flat pan on the other side to put little weights on. There's a set of metric weights and an imperial one as well, as some recipes work best in ounces.
I love Lanza's recipes in the Guide, and was impressed by the fact that she has no way of weighing the ingredients. I gather that recipes are also one of the most popular types of entry for the Readers, that 95% of h2g2 users that we all forget about.
If I ever get back to Lanzarote, I'll try and make this virtual gift into a real one.

aww! I am so touched! Thank you Luckily cooking is more of an art than a science, and hunger makes the best sauce.
Now I will have to think a while before posting what I'd like to give to h2g2.

I've just finished writing a cookbook of my favorite recipes, destined to be printed out, put into looseleaf binders, and put under the tree for my relatives at Christmas. There are 47 recipes in all, 3 of which are already guide entries here. Some of my friends have suggested posting the recipes here. If I posted one recipe per week throughout 2014.....

Nice one clare.
I have put your living tree up as my desktop wallpaper.
And I'll probably use it as an email xmas card.

I just realised why I enjoyed clare's xmastree image so much.
I had just seen a cartoon of a tree where all the ornaments
are within two feet of the bottom and the rest of the tree is
pretty bare and green - the feet of a couple can be seen sitting
on the couch nearby and saying: 'The kids did a good job on the
tree' and 'Yeah, but maybe next year we should help them with the
higher bits.'
Here's clare's tree again - and after looking at it on my desktop
for a while I spotted the rather common problem of reaching the top
especially on a living tree out of doors. I mean, who keeps a step
ladder out in the snow.

For those of you familiar with geocaching, I'll offer this link. It is a geocache set by a friend of mine, who asks that people finding the cache help to decorate a tree chosen by him and which is likely to baffle local dog walkers as they find an increasingly decorative tree along their normal walking route.
It's upper reaches are s bit bare.
