Lady came to mrs. Gandalfstwin and I around February 1998. She had had a hard life up to then. When we found out about her, it was through a woman we had met at Bingo. Her sister had not heard from the woman for a few days. She went round to her sisters house to find the house unoccupied, with three dogs, including Lady, locked and abandoned in the bathroom.
Our friend from Bingo, Theresa, asked us if we wanted a dog, and filled us in on the story. We said that we would have a look. Missus fell in love with 'Lady' on the spot, and we took her home with us.
She was so obidient, that she rarely needed a lead. The only time she was on a lead was when the law required it, or on a bus.
She was very rarely ill, so vet bills were minimal...Except from the bill when she was speyed.
When I was working, we all had four holidays a year in Morecambe....No lead. If there was another dog in the vicinity, "Leave" war enough, unless the owner of the other dod said otherwise....
Lady has also been through the trauma of having a car park itself in the living room. At that time, she had to go into kennels, and the staff praised missus and I on Lady's good behaviour!
When we moved to out current accommodation, again she was praised for her good nature and behaviour
It is only in the past few weeks that we have noticed a precipitous decline in her health.
One week ago she went to the vet, and was prescribed antibiotics, with a reccomendation for a blood test. She took anti-bios for a few days , then refused to eat anything.
This morning, Lady went to the vet, and got a blood test.
The result came through about 4 PM.
Diagnosis - acute kidney failure.
Lady put to sleep about 6.20PM BST

My heart goes out to you, gandalfstwin. I know how tough it is to lose one of the family, especially if they've been with you for some time.
Lady sounds like a gem and I know you'll miss her a lot.
R.I.P Lady.

I'm sorry to hear this too Gandalfstwin, Lady sounded like she found a great family with you and your wife. It is a great loss when your dog has to be put to sleep, but you did the right thing. I miss my dogs still so I know how you feel.

Making the decision to 'let go' is the hardest part, and my heart goes out to you and your Missus
I have very fond memories of my lab, Blondie. Even after 9 years, she's still in our hearts.
