What's Been Happening This Week
Mu Beta Started conversation Oct 19, 2003
All of last week's bids have gone through and Alfredo and GreyDesk both have new-look teams as a result.
In a good week for defenders, Uncle Heavy becomes the first player to break into three figures, but is still being chased hard by GreyDesk. Remember, one good week can change a lot with the scores still this close.
---
More importantly - this week's cup results:
Boothen Enders (Steve) 11-13 Players with Nice Names (Odo)
Professor Psyc's Admin Express (Psycorp) 10-14 Apple Juice ('Desk)
The Ghost of Peter Reid FC (Friddle) 12-5 Forbes Phillipson's Masters (No Six)
Hardly Athletic (Otto) 12-10 Aimless Wanderers (UH)
So the league leader is out!
---
The semi-final draw has been made, and will be contested over the next week:
Players with Nice Names (Odo) vs Hardly Athletic (Otto)
The Ghost of Peter Reid FC (Friddle) vs Apple Juice ('Desk)
Good luck one and all

Great. Roy Keane puts me out of the cup. He'd not scored, clean sheet for Robbo, would have gone through. Damnit.

I think I owe my progression to the semis to the inspired signing of Jamie Clapham - two clean sheets this week!

Indeed, it has been a fine week for anyone shopping in Birmingham.

Sell one of your better players to Psycorp or Andy, then. I'm sure they'd jump at the chance.

Um. He has eight points and a broken leg to my knowledge...

Hey, there's nothing like optimism.
My advice - if you want to sell anyone, I'd start a new thread, or pop round to the PSs of managers with cash to spare. I suspect that quite a few may have unsubscribed from this thread by now.

You still haven't quite got the hang of this game, have you? If you sell him, you keep the eight points.

...and the buyer gets a crocked left-back and won't lose points for goals conceded... Hang on, this sounds like a good idea actually

GreyDesk Posted Oct 21, 2003
But hang on a moment, isn't there the threat of points deduction for non playing players. I know B mentioned it as a defence against us buying really crap defenders that never get a game, and hence never lose any points.
It was precisely because of this threat that I dumped my Newcastle 'superstar' Nikos Dabizas

Mu Beta Posted Oct 21, 2003
Yes, that threat is still present.
I can understand managers hanging onto good players if they are only injured for a month or two, but if I suspect anyone of picking up defenders who obviously won't be getting a game just to prevent minus points, then I shall be having stern words.

Bear in mind, of course, that we have an new player - with £10m to spare - who would be crying out for the likes of Shearer, Scholes or O'Shea...

well whats the ppoint of selling the three players of mine who make me all my points? there inst enough quality left to warrant selling any of those

We can sell players back to management, though, can't we? I would imagine that it would be possible to swap a non-playing defender for a playing one...

Ah, but I've found the management have offered me extremely nugatory amounts for anyone I've wanted to sell, so have concluded I'm better off staying put and hoping my players start delivering the goods...
