Insufferable woman
Hypatia Posted Jul 19, 2003
By women's libber, I mean she's radical about it. She resents men in general and all those she knows in particular. But she still flirts like a young woman (she's in her 60's) thinking she can win them over with sex appeal. Then she trashes them behind their backs.
I'm a libber myself if what you mean is equal rights, equal pay, etc.

ah yes that's not really my kind of libber, that woman, but what really gets to me is all the new Act women (Act is a rightwing political party here) who are actively anti-feminist and proud of it and think that it's just that women get paid less etc! very very weird and equally insufferable as a so-called libber who obviously suffers from pretty severe self-esteem problems which she tries to dose by being senselessly mean to men
btw what does hypatia mean?

Hypatia was the daughter of the librarian of the Library at Alexandria. I'm a librarian, so I chose her name. She was famous in her own right as a mathematician and philosopher. She was a pagan and was abducted off of the street by a hoard of Christians, dragged into a church, beaten to death then mutilated.
I'm not into extremism. It scares me. And I've never understood the libbers who are such men haters. It takes away from a reasonable discussion of the issues. On the other hand, I get very frustrated with the women who allow themselves to be doormats. There are a lot of serious injustices that need to be addressed.
From a historical perspective, one of the things I hate is that so many of the contributions by women throughout history have been left out of the history books.

I read somewhere that the Roman Catholic saint known as Catherine of Alexandria was actually Hypatia of Alexandria. Far from being murdered by pagans for being Christian, she was murdered by Christians for having too many ideas of her own. I have no idea if this story is true, although it does sound plausible; the details of "Catherine's" martyrdom are too eerily close. But it does my soul good to think that my patron saint is actually a pagan intellectual.
And Haypatia, you should be nominated for sainthood for tolerating the insufferable woman without killing her. She does sound seriously crazy.

Well, she tries to get me fired periodically. She hasn't succeeded yet, but that's not to say she won't one day. She's very well connected and people are afraid of her, so she gets her way most of the time. But the evil thoughts I've had about her lately are far from saintly.
Catherine is my confirmation name. Small world. I've often suspected that they were the same woman, but with the lives of saints, we usually get some embellishment, making it hard to actually know.
I've read different accounts of Hypatia's death. So, the actual details are a bit murky. But the basic story is always the same. She was kidnapped by Christian zealots who considered her ideas Pagan/evil, and murdered by them.
And I wanted a nickname here that wasn't silly - even though I am very silly at times.

Hi hypatia harrasment in the work place is a serious issue (sexaul or other wise) if what you say true Strongly Advice you start keeping personal records of incidents, names of witnesses and most important copys of any documentation relivant. It is almost impossible to stop this type of person but payment/compensation for constructive dismissal can be a great comfort and if sited will usually clip the wings of the harrasser.By the way your story of Hypatia`s untimely end has seriously disturbed me leaving me with a mental picture of a clasic Miss Jones type women(twin set pearls long dark hair up in a tight bun(held in place of course by two pencils)and glasses being held over head by a angry mob of woolen coat and bobble hat wearing little old ladies as they carrie her off to a horrible death.

A lovely, antiquated word cropped up in another conversation which means faultfinder, nitpicker, pain in backside. I shall henceforth refer to my problem woman as The Smellfungus!
Ok I feel much better now.
By the way, the correct answer for those questions about which should I wear.....do I look fat....is this color right.....is (drumroll) you look lovely in everything you wear. 7 little words that will keep you out of trouble.

What a wonderful word!
You know, I can see a children's book with poems and drawings to illustrate words like this. Or a poem. Hint, hint!

"YOU LOOK LOVELY IN WHAT EVER YOU WEAR"this is the verble equivilent of light blue touch paper and stand well back. This rous would only stand a chance of working if the relation ship was with a woman of a reasonable state of mind(this includes a very high percentage of the femail population or so they keep telling me)but we`re talking about the rare ones who like Cybal Fawlty, can kill a man at twenty yards with one lash of her tongue

Oh my BBPC. If your problem woman is as bad as Ms Faulty, then you have my deepest sympathy. You're right. There is nothing you can do or say to keep out of trouble in that case.
