Entry: New York City, New York, USA - A1107992
Author: Jodan - Happy holidays, my friends! - U201497
I've had my eye on updating this for a while, because the original entry - A199389, is just pretty bad, and I guess it's finally ready. I included everything from the old entry except the part on John Lennon and the Mathematics of NYC.
Can anyone give me some advice- since this was a collaborative topic, do I go around to all of the original author's Personal Spaces?
By the way, it looks like the typos (and there were quite a many) were sorted in the CWW - my thanks to Gnomon and Judge Mental

Well, if I'd got something in the EG, I'd be pretty put out if someone went and updated and changed it without telling me - so I'd advise you do go round them all...

Hmmm.. the bit on the mathematics of New York was quite good just in terms of what in the Map Room (A1286921) we'd refer to as an 'orientation' section - are you sure about leaving it out?
Also, I'd say John Lennon being assassinated was a fairly important event in the history of New York - why take it out?
The bit about the New York Subway *could* be out of date - I may be wrong here, but the impression you get in the news over here is that they've made great progress with it over the last few years and it's actually rather good now.
I'm pretty sure the London Underground is the oldest in the world, but that may just be the Englishman in me... although I'm perfectly willing to concede that the London Underground is rubbish
Finally, looking at the entry itself, I'd recommend you start each of the boroughs with a subheader or even header - doing it the way you've done it, starting in bold and going straight to bullet points, I think the GuideML looks a little bit cluttered.

I'm far too sick and cranky to argue just now but...
>>Also, I'd say John Lennon being assassinated was a fairly important event in the history of New York - why take it out?
For one thing, length. For another, it doesn't really impart much information on the city. We already have an entry on John Lennon, already.
>>Hmmm.. the bit on the mathematics of New York was quite good just in terms of what in the Map Room (A1286921) we'd refer to as an 'orientation' section - are you sure about leaving it out?
I can be convinced on that one. I didn't think it was necessary, but I agree it's not useless.
>>I'm pretty sure the London Underground is the oldest in the world, but that may just be the Englishman in me... although I'm perfectly willing to concede that the London Underground is rubbish
You know what? I think you're right... I didn't do much work on the old parts of the entry, so I didn't think of checking that. Whoopsy. I'll get to confirming that later...
>> I think the GuideML looks a little bit cluttered.
Really? I think too many headers and subheaders can make an entry look too cluttered.

Hey Jodan.
I never saw the original of this entry, so I'm not really sure which bits are new and which are old. It's a good entry either way really!
Couple of changes I can recommend-
Under "Tips for Tourists in New York City", maybe change the bottom paragraph to read "New York City has a reputation (mostly from films and television crime dramas) as a haven for crime, but in recent years, though the reputation has stuck, crime has been reduced substantially, largely due to a zero-tolerance initiative undertaken in the 1990s. The famous New York Mafia is weakening and New York has recently been rated as one of the safest cities in America." (Just an idea, so people know why crime has gone down)
Under "Ground Zero" -> September 11, 2001 needs to be changed to 11th September 2001 I *think* (not 100% about that one actually).

Hi there I've dropped by your personal space with some helpful tips on h2g2.
I don't think anyone here is in New York right now, but it certainly would be an exciting time to be there, what with the New Year celebrations
Good luck!

*Almost*. The formula for dates on h2g2 is day (no 'th') month COMMA year COMMA or FULL STOP.
So: 11 September, 2001.
Let me know when this is ready to become an official update, folks.

Alright I'm going to have to get used to that.
Anyway, it's changed. (That date's only used once in the history section, isn't it?)
I'm sure that there are more nitpicks than this. Surely some people can spot some more typos, grammatical errors or style issues! At least try!

Some nitpicks:
Move the picture to the section about the subway. With a bit of look, the editors will see fit to providing a new picture.
on is an island --> and is an island
home of the US Open --> home of the US Open, the top American tennis tournament
September 11 --> 11 September
character climbed to the top --> character climbs to the top

Any more for any more?
If not... this might well become an official update very soon.
