Nice entry. I think there's a spelling mistake where you are talking about F35?thread="/h2g2/forum/22" >F22 or F35?thread="/h2g2/forum/22" >F22 or F18?thread=Nice entry. I think there's a spelling mistake where you are talking about F35?thread="/h2g2/forum/22" >F22 or F18. It's enging rotated down and a fan opened up behing the pilot to allow vertical landing. They have both been about for years and the decision on which one will be put into production was only recently made.

Boeing didn't get the contract in the end , they made a test plane to show the employers they could do it but obviously they didn't think it was good enough.British Aerospace and Lockheed Martin got the contract . Thankyou for writing back , i will check the entry again.

hey, a couple of sentences in your(?) entry appear to be copy/pasted from elsewhere on the web . I haven't checked the rest yet, but anyway, have you read the Writing-Guidelines ?

hello terminator (i'm assuming that terminator will actually return to read this posting ),
i'm a big fan of aviation, especially with regard to combat airplanes - and i really like it that people at h2g2 are taking the initiative to write about them.
the only thing i have to say about your article is this - you speak of the new fighter generation, and yet leave it at a discussion about one plane. there are quite a lot of readers out there who aren't very well informed about the history of aviation, and consequently might find your article somewhat confusing. perhaps you could expand the article to cover the evolution (or the generations) of fighter planes? i don't think anybody has covered this topic yet. you could discuss the progression from propellers to jets, developments in the aviation industry in other countries, VTOLs (i still find these dead cool) - and of course, the failures. (the f-4 'flying brick' for one )
(you *did* know that roald dahl was a fighter pilot during the second world war, didn't you? )
in the event terminator *doesn't* come back, would anyone like to volunteer covering these aspects of fighter history?
cheers,
far.
