this is great, i only have two problems with it: add somethin about the dolls of New York (or the New York Dolls) cause they were there before the Ramones ever hooked up and add something about Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph. (web pages are as follows: www.fatwreck.com and www.epitaph.com ) The only reason I know about the New York Dolls is because I did a report on punk. Add Rancid or NoFX and you'll be set!

It's England you dolt. At least spell it right. Also, Green Day aren't sell outs, although you're right about Blink 182 since they pretty much have their own clothing range. Don't just think I'm some stupid disgruntled pop-punk fan, I'm actually listening to the Clash as I write this and love 70s/80s punk.

Hmmmm im gonna butt in and argue that NoFX are not punk in the traditional sense...
punk music was played by people who had more attitude & opinions than musical talent... the idea was to play shitty and not care how it sounded, it wasnt about how it sounded, the worse the better, the less pop it was... NoFX aalthough they deal with lyrics about politics etc, that does NOT make them punk... expressive political, emotional, anti or pro drugs etc lyrics are written by hip hop artists, reggae singers etc
america took the type of music that came from new york and sparked it up for the sun, sand n sea calafornia skate "punks"...
it isnt really punk rock
im still undecided about Rancid, but i hav lost respect for Tim Armstrong since hes dating Kelly Osbourne... lol

of course things vary from person to person, but as it stands, nofx are not punk in the grand old tradition that punk is, they represent a lot of what punk is, that i can agree too but so do other bands, metal bands, even some pop singers! lol
and i apologise, i read in the sun(not the most reliable i know) that kelly herself said she was dating tim armstrong... but if im wrong, im wrong

i dunno about that, im blonde...
Hmmmm aah, that age old question... i cant really answer that... i can tell ya everythin punk aint... erm, punk isnt about fightin, or violence, spitting, pogoing, or drugs, or nazis,
what u hav 2 remember, the 1970s were a v different time to what we live in now, there woz social chaos, everyone was skint, so people stole, racism was everywhere, it was a time when everything was plain, ordinary... they didnt hav the range in clothes that we ha, it was all flares and other 60s throw backs... punk music was about savin rock n roll, the culture that grew up around it was full of teenagers who wanted to be individual as they had never had teh chance... the "punk" look was original as no one had done that b4, the swastikas were about bein offensive, it was nothing political. lookin back, people seem to associate punk with spittin, mohecans, violence, heroin... thats not how it started, the bad evil ikkle american new york scene started that! lol although sid vicious invented the pogp! lol
erm, punk music was the most alternative style of music to popular clean music that the record companies were releasing. it was loud, obnoxious, nasty, fast... it was noise, thats all... its was awful... it was about getting a band together and not caring if you could play. it was bein crap and knowin it... they didnt care... it was only offensive because back then, the "f" word was offensive... it was a shock to the people of britian... thats all it was... it was three chords and not melodic!
