Entry: The Dune Chronicles:- The Books by Frank Herbert - A1051057
Author: Kiltedjedi - UG Miner (Minsiter for Alcohol, lack of cigarettes and Vice(s) Game addicts support group A1041625) - U225307
Has more footnotes than a Terry Pratchett book.
Am thinking of linking this to a second article (yet to be started) about the characters of the Duniverse.

Blimey
Have you considered making a University Project out of this? The University has been rather neglected lately

Well I'd need help on it. Especially Children of Dune(The book I have lost so read the least) If I was going to do it as a Project I think I would try to split it into 6 entries (1 for each book) a definitions page, an Introduction and the Index.
If anyone is interested leave me a message about it.
Just seems a pity to trash this entry. Hmm

Fraid I'd be of no help to you regarding content KJ - I've only read each book once, and a long time ago. But I'd be more than willing to help out with normal Scouting tasks - checking grammar, typos, etc

That would still be a great help Gosho
As you can see I have taken this out of PR, at least until I decide what I want to do. (I think the idea of a uni project sounds quite good, but looks like a fair it of work. This took 2 weeks to put together on it's own)

there are now some prequels.
"the butlerian jihad" deals with the start of the troubles between the atreidies and harkonen families.
you also have three extra books which I can't comment on because I have not read them yet. they sit between the butlerian jihad and the original "dune".
these are:
house harkonnen
house atreidies
house corrino
you might need to check the spellings on those.

the correct spellings are:
house harkonnen
house atreides
house corrino
they are written under the heading "prelude to dune" by brian herbert and kevin j anderson.
the butlerian jihad comes under the heading of "legends of dune 1", which implies that there are more to come. this is also written by the same authors.

Xyroth,
I know there are thr prequels, I have even read 2 of them and they (IMHO) are cr*p. That's why I titled it with Frank Herberts name. Anything I do with this is not going to have more than a passing reference to the fact that the prequels have been written.
Cheers

but the fact that they have been written should at least get a mention, preferably naming the books as well.

The fact that they were written did get a mention (and I managed to keep my bile down about them as well )
This is going for a university project possibly. If you like the prequels I would like you to do something on them (I couldn't for the reasons mentioned above)
That is why I took this particular piece out of PR as well ( to be done as Uni research piece.)
Also I think that the title makes it explicitly clear that it is about the Dune Chronicles and not the prequels, so I feel that naming the books not only gives them a validity I don't feel they deserve, but also the fact they are not the Dune chronicles, and in fact if they are read, have very little to do with the Duniverse, despite Brian and F*ckW*t trying to make them canon.
(OK so I feel strongly about the invalidity of the prequels )

While I have got all four of the prequels, I have only read about half of the first one (the butlerian jihad).
the problem it has is that like star wars - the phantom menace, it was starting too far before the original series of books. this can naturally lead to a sense of disconnectedness in them due to the lack of either familiar characters, or of familiar places.
the only sucessfull cases I have seen of this have either worked back from the originals in jumps, filling in the gaps between jumps (star wars and star trek have both done this), or have written the sections as independent, but in the same universe, and then written others to connect them together. (the most obvious case is asimov and his robot stories and foundation novels).
