I had an acute case last night, and figured I'm probably not the only one whose fat mouth (or fingers) gets ahead of my brain.

I included pretty much everthing I could think of on the topic, but I think there's probably more to be said.

Wasn't sure how to do a search for an entry already on this topic, so if anyone knows about one, let me know and I'll withdraw.

Er... I am open to any and all criticism on anything and everything, so long as it doesn't get personal. smiley - winkeye

If I reply to this now, will I suffer from Post post remorse later ? smiley - biggrin
There are a few more reasons for having post post remorse- giving out personal details is one that i think should be included in your list. smiley - cheers

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Very nice indeed smiley - ok

A few things:

The title looks a little odd as 'Post-post Remorese', but I think that's the correct way of doing it as far as hypenated compounds are concerned. However, it should be either 'post [or Post]-post remorse' throughout the entry. You've capitalised 'Remorse' in a number of places.

"hundreds of thousands of forum users daily"
'hundreds of thousands of Internet forum users daily'
You could even add a footnote listing a number of forum types - messageboards, bulletin boards, online communities, newsgroups etc.

The format for attributable quotes is to put them in blockquote tags with the name of the author underneath and in normal text, like this:
Not everything you think should be said; not everything you say should be written; not everything you write should be published.-Unidentified Jewish Sage

That's one of the few instances we ever use tags btw.

"as people more easily reveal personal information"
I would change 'easily reveal' either to 'readily reveal' or 'feel more at ease about revealing'.

"that they then feel required to defend"
'Compelled to defend' perhaps?

"in a continuous frame of time"
'in real time'

"where thread conversations zip along in real-time, and a would-be participant needs to post quickly"
Saying 'in real-time' doesn't really heighten the sense of speed that you're trying to convey. What about 'zip along so quickly that a would-be participant'?

"to stay part of it"
'to keep up with the flow'

*Previews post, looks for typos or anything destined to make one look like a complete muppet or start a flame war*

Looks good smiley - ok

Check again.

Anyway, I figured if Post-post Remorse is the title of a malady, then the entire title gets capitalised, including the 'remorse' part.

Will read and consider everything and make changes after considering is done.
thanks!

Changes being incorporated. Thank you BH for the time and work on behalf of this entry. smiley - smiley

I can't confess to drinking and posting at the same time, but I can see where it could lead to acute symptoms of Post-post Remorse.

Will add.

Good entry, LeoAlpha!

I don't think this needs much in the line of further content; it is well-structured and says just the right amount.

A few tiny formatting things:

far far better -- put a comma after the first far

Your two block-quotes each have a closing quote sign at the end which should be removed.

"when people loose vitriolic or mis-informed posts" -- I don't like the use of 'loose' as a verb here, as I think it can be confusing. I'd prefer if you chose a different word.

"nobody knows quite who said it, or how." -- I don't know why you have "or how" at the end of that. Presumably they said it with their mouth.

>nobody knows quite who said it, or how<

P'raps you mean "nobody knows quite who said it, or why." ??

And I agree with G. smiley - winkeye

How about instead of;

>when people loose vitriolic or mis-informed posts<

"when people spout vitriolic or mis-informed posts" ??

Just ideas smiley - winkeye

I really enjoyed this. smiley - ok

On the content side, I think it could benefit from a paragraph on "What should you do after you do post something you regret". Maybe this is covered in the house rules (I haven't checked), in which case a link would suffice.

On h2g2, if you say something really offensive, you can always refer your own posting to the moderators by pressing the 'yikes' button. This option may not be available on other forums.

Hi Leo,

Just had another read of this and I still love it! I was thinking about the entry as I was falling asleep last night (as you do smiley - laugh) and I think I had an epiphany smiley - erm

Feel free to disregard this but I will share anyway, ok?

It occurred to me that you could decide to expand a bit on consequences and repercussions, both negative and positive.

While you could go on about having to move house, changing your name by deed poll and switching email address due to too-hastily shared personal information, and you have already expounded on the painful emotions elicited by the excruciating embarrassment, you have not talked about the one forum on the internet that is actually pretty forgiving towards chronic smiley - footinmouth perpetrators.

That would be hootoo, of course smiley - winkeye So far, the few harsh reactions I have witnessed here spin off from a stubbornness to stick to the content of the original posting, and therefore there is a lack of PpR there by the original poster as well as a lack of compassion by the participants in the thread.

It seems that if a chronic smiley - footinmouth perpetrator makes a gaffe and apologises for it sincerely, the community is not only very ready to forgive, it is also quite welcoming and accepting. Of course, that assumes these are genuine mistakes and not attempts to raise the temperature.

Quite possibly an irrelevant point, and definitely too wordy, but there you go, you get the gist of it, I hope.

smiley - biggrin
