What's the deepest level everyone's been to?
I'd like to tell you mine, but I can't actually remember
Simon (brother) says he's been to level 30 but I'd imagine Eggy could beat that.

Only lvl 10
Odd though - all my best characters were killed by something low level. My top high scoring character (lvl 13) was killed by starvation on level one just because I didn't notice the warnings. D'oh
Odd that I had a lvl 13 character killing everything on dungeon level 10 without too much difficulty, but lost a lvl 11 character because he found the monsters on lvl 6 too difficult.

What sort of character do you play? I find whenever a mage gets to lvl 3 * makes mincemeat out of cave spiders.
(* means he or she, I always randomise)

Try going an Elf Ranger. At the low levels you tend to get munched, but if your careful (learn phase door quickly and magic missle) once you get level 6 or 7+ your near damn invincible till you find lagduf

My best character was an elf ranger. He was not invincible, if you don't know what a scroll of recall is and haven't been keeping track of rations its perfectly possible to die on lvl 1 looking for the stairs up.

I normally go as an Elf Ranger, but I'm just too clumsy. I always run too fast (I keep my finger on the cursor until too late) and run into a room of crap, like rodents and such.

The only time I've held down the button and got a good result was when I found a room full of explosive breeders (no space to move) who seemed to deal damage more slowly than it healed. That room was good for a few levels before I got bored and wondered off.
Btb - Farmer Maggot a force for good or evil? He provides much needed good items, but on the other hand his dogs have killed several new characters when they appear a level early.

You seem to be a big fan of phase door, I've never found it that usefull, tend to just take the enemy an extra turn or two to get to you.

Yeah, I've never had much truck with it either - in fact, it's gotten me into worse situations rather than just fighting it out.

"Phase Door", as well as having a stupid name, can be more trouble than it's worth. I'm a Paladin, so I have the "Portal" prayer (basically Teleport with a more "Spiritual" name) and thus have no need of the Phase Door spell unless I've been stupid and used all Glasscock's mana up casting frivolous spells before encountering a big posse of angry Hill Orcs who hate Paladins with stupid names.
Then I find Phase Door can be quite useful, if used standing in a corridor. That or a potion of Speed

Phase door, when used properly can be very useful. Get in a corridor or a room filled with enemies? dont want to spend a lot of mana on teleport? phase door away then cast some spells to piss them off.

Since we're on the quick survey page I was just wondering how many charcter you'd all killed off. I only thought of it because I hit the 50 mark today. Then, you've all been playing a lot longer than I have.

characters of mine that are dead or uniques? My dead characters is over 20 now and dead uniques is actually shockingly low. the Elandria line (all 11 of them) have only killed about 30 uniques (counting killing the same one loads of times)
