Mouse is a new convert. Angband seems to be one of the few games that will run in DinoMac.

Zag introduced me. Took us about four tries to find a version that would work.

Like I said, a *lot* of early characters are going to get killed. Happens to all of us. smiley - smiley

The best thing to do is always start out with warriors of strong races because they're harder to kill and be *very* cautious. Even then nothing's guaranteed. Once you get up to about level 4 you'll be more secure to explore with confidence.

And when you get a strong character they *really* last. I've been running Glasscock the Paladin for literally years now.

well i was playing over christmas, and i kept getting killed by stupid things, about about 20 or more characters have died from things like starvation, cave spiders, Jackals, small kobalds, and giant white mice! i have however learned to grab stuff on the first dungeon level and sell it upin town to buy food. I also figured out how to tunnel through rubble smiley - biggrin

Tunneling is a good way to make money early on, as is selling odds and ends in the shops.

You might want to stock-up on teleportation and Word of Recall scrolls. These can help you get out of a tight situation, especially those involving "breeding" creatures like lice or worms; even high-level characters can be penned-in by those.

i still havent figured out how to use the potions of scrolls, so i mostly just sell them.

The potions you "quaff" using the "q" key. The scrolls you read using the "r" key. Early on you won't know what the scrolls are so you might want to experiment; that or buy them from magic shops. Be aware that some scrolls and potions have B A D effects so experimenting with unknown ones carries some risk.

hmmm, "b" is browse for looking at spell or prayer books (for wizards and clerics). I'm sure "r" is for reading scrolls.

I seem to recall the keys on the Mac version were a bit weird, though. You might want to try checking the in-game instructions. smiley - smiley
