A Conversation for Talking Point: Accidents and Disasters

A very accident-full musical...

Post 1

David B - Singing Librarian Owl

I have just finished a 'tour' (two engagements of three days, does that count?) of a musical called Courtenay and the cast managed to sustain quite a number of injuries.

This is because the climatic scene is a battle (the last ever fought on English soil) with cudgels, muskets, pyrotechnics and goodness knows what else going on. Luckily, there were no pyro or gun-related injuries (though two people did get hit by the butts of bayonets in a different scene...), but most of us ended up covered in bruises by the end of the run, due to our perhaps somewhat over-enthusiastic deaths. One guy died so spectaculaly one night that he ripped his knee very badly. By the end of the run it had gone septic. Eeew.

One other person was hit in the face by a cudgel, but suffered no ill effects.

My tally of injuries is four bruises on my right leg (from collapsing onto a barricade of upturned benches) and a nasty gash on my left leg (not quite sure when it happened!). Theatre is a dangerous business!
