A Conversation for Talking Point: Discrimination

Discrimination

I suffer from severe depression and I can honestly say that I am dicriminated against because of this.
In my teens my depression took over at one point and landed me in hospital meaning that I never got the option of exams or completing school, I have since done lots of voluntary work and college coursesbut I can't even get work as a shop assistant- I have no hard, fast work experience.
As soon as prospective employers discover that I have a mental illness even though it is currently under control I find that I might as well not be there, I have no chance.
I live in England, a country that is committed to helping people into work but the truth is the disabilities that you can't see are what people are afraid of and, however much they may not want to people do discriminate against people with mental illness
