Reasoned Debate

Maybe I should talk to my MLA. "Raj," I could say, "I know you're just the leader of a party with only two seats in a legislature which is really only window-dressing for what has been effectively a one-party fief for over three decades, and I know that according to the constitution Provincial Legislatures have no jurisdiction over the Armed Forces, but could you put pressure on something to get increased funding for the military?"
Or maybe I should talk to the Mayor. He's an elected member. And he is on record as feeling that as Mayor he has the right to do whatever he wants. Yeah! That's who I should talk to. The Mayor. He'll fix it all up for Oetzi.

Now, Oetzi, with which elected member should I discuss this:
'"Luckily we evacuated the children five minutes before we came under attack," said Ibrahim Jassim, a 40-year-old guard at the kindergarten. "Why did they attack randomly? Why did they shoot a kindergarten with tank shells?" ' http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/031201/w120112.html

Terrorist kindergarten, Anhaga, tiny little terrorists each and everyone of them......ask any kindergarten teacher.

anhaga Posted Dec 1, 2003
Seems to me I've heard that somewhere before. Well, I guess all children are potential terrorists. Hmm. That almost sounds like Justin.

I am surprised at the negative response from a suggestion.
Seems to me A you have an MP from a minority group. Comes across that way. Is that not good then?
If I had relatives in a war situation with inadequate fighting kit like your peace keeping force has...well...I would not hesitate to see my MP. I suppose Canada is different. Is it because of the size of this place or what?
The only deduction I can make is that you Canadians are disenfranchised with politics. That's a shame because you look good from over here. I know you have a deficit problem but things are looking up. Certainly you will be able to get your army and airforce back on a mobile ready footing.
You know folks I am the best friend you will find. Why. Cause I tell you straight. I expect the same back. You'll be hard pushed to offend me. Mind you I don't like the Montana style emails to Bush House....reminds me of Berlin 1933.
But as you rightly say Anhaga...I am not perfect.

anhaga Posted Dec 1, 2003
Deficit problem? Ancient history Oetzi.
The point is not that we're disenfranchized (and yes, my elected members represent some of the things that are good about Canada). The point is that we don't need some guy in England giving us unsolicited advice about a problem he sees with our country. When someone from Michigan calls us on the garbage issue then we have a discussion and suggestions come up on both sides. You have brought up a problem you have with our military and then have told us what to do, even though your information is hopelessly out of whack and you've expressed a dislike for facts.
I wish you would make the deduction that you need to do a bit of learning before you start getting on your high horse.
I have to go play under Trunt's bridge for a while. See you all later.

anhaga,
i really don;t understand why Canada wanted to throw off the imperial yoke you know. All this good advice, both political and managerial, just think how great Canada could have been if you hadn't stupidly thrown away the expertise of Britain on the international stage.

I don't talk that much with Trunt.
I wasn't aware that I was causing international discord.
On the contrary.
Speak later!

>>Tony Blair aligned himself with Dubya to have a calming influence on him. Remember Tony is the leader of the British Labour party . He is boxing clever; one day the world may thank him for it. <<
Iused to have that theory, once, redpeck - now, sadly, I think that's giving old Tone way too much credit. Pity!

> Yeah. I'll get right on it, Oetzi. And I'll keep sending my emails to President Bush with my suggestions for him as well.
Is it just me, or does 'political member' sound nasty?
RE: Tony Blair and President Bush
The reason that Blair and Bush are so closely entwined is that Bush Sr. helped out Britain with the Persian Gulf War. Kuwait is a British-created country, just as Iraq was created with the help of the U.S. Britain was obligated to help because of a previous favor.
That's my opinion, anyway.

If you go back 50yrs the USA and Britain have a long and solid "special relationship". We stall dictatorships.
So do I.

well exactly what influence do you think helen Clarke has on preventing world catatrophe then della?
"Why did they shoot a kindergarten with tank shells?"
BouncyBitInTheMiddle Posted Dec 2, 2003
Why would Canada need to spend more money on its military? Its not a target for international terrorism or invasion by other countries.
What Canada does do is contribute a very sizable force to UN peacekeeping missions.
If you go back 50 years then Britain was still an Imperial power, although admittedly mostly trying to take the empire apart without leaving anywhere in anarchy. Since then the USA and UK have both supported and opposed a number of very nasty regimes, not out of any special desire to oppose dictatorship, but out of self-interest.
And interestingly, the major opponent to the UK and USA, the USSR, had just ceased being a dictatorship and become an ogliarchy 50 years ago.

The fact is Bounce Canada's defence forces are some of the worls's finest. The vehicles they have to use are old and dangerous. They have to rely on lifts from the USAF to get aroun their own back yard never mind cross anything like the Forth of Firth.
They have aircraft that we mothballed 20 yrs ago. They have personell carriers with inadequate blast protection. The Canadians have deliberately been riding off NATO for the last 10 years. They hace 3 500 top crack troops - best peace keepers on the planet - with zero backing from the politicians.
IT STINKS
As far as this Helen person getting searched. She came off an emirates flight. The only person not searched is Kofi Annan.

"Why did they shoot a kindergarten with tank shells?"
Oetzi Oetztaler....Anti Apartheid Posted Dec 2, 2003
The only thought in a terrorists head Redpeck is hate.
That hate is dispelled by peacekeepers.
Peacekeepers need political support.
The Canadians are the best in the business.
They have been forgotton by Ottawa and it's a disgrace.
Expand your horizon please Red.

I'm more than happy to hope that 'peacekeepers' could sort the sorry mess out. But they NEED teeth surely for a terroist to take any notice.
