Tricky.
From looking around ican every so often I'd say there are quite a few campaigns now (many of them tests!) but very little genuine activity in terms of people signing up to them. When the front page of the site advertises a star campaign and/or campaigner I find there is nothing worthwhile happening on the link at all. It makes me think the choices are spoofs or it merely shows the last person to have done anything on the site at all.
ican only has a chance of working if people from the right area or interested in the right subject even think to look there. That's more the BBC's problem than yours, Kat. In shopping terms they may be getting some of the footfall through the store but no-one's buying at the tills.
The conventional answer is to advertise on Askh2g2. I think that's a bit impolite and irrelevant to most people in this case. Your choice.
Obviously you can put the club number in your nickname so people will see it but make sure it is clear they have to go to ican to see it. The page link you gave just now doesn't work because it only shows the club in h2g2 site/skin, ie devoid of all information. Again this is down to the BBC not you. They need to display the contents on all sites or redirect to the correct site.
Meanwhile you can make a full site link on your personal space.
The most obviously relevant place to advertise would be the Essex Researchers Group (if that is where Thurrock is and if you haven't done so already).
The slightly less obvious place to go is to the feedback or team type pages on ican itself to ask the relevant staff what to do. They might even put your club on the front page.

SEF for the advice...
Kat has now posted on the Group's page and i will make a point of linking her campaign on its main page..
Any community spirited campaign/activity from ex-LDers is certainly welcome in these [once again] difficult times...
Will see if there are other ways of making it known [got one idea right now but it will have to wait a few days unfortunately]...
Talk soon everyone... And well done Kat...

I had a look at your campaign
I tend to not visit iCan for the exact reasons SEF has described. It feels like being in an empty book discussion group
If more people use it then it will get better, but unless it gets better not many more people will visit it, or at least repeatedly visit.
I think that a DNA wide linkage would work wonders for it.
