h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I did not where to put this query but when I am either using the email service or I am on here I am unable to see my normal cable tv service and I only get Front row in the small box.

More importantly my keyboard is very hard to control and when I type I very little control in what letters that come to the screen. I only ask here as you have to wait a very long time to get any queries answered on telewest and then you have to go through several people.

By the way my name is not on the FoLDers Arms and Essex Researchers lists and it has been 3 weeks since I first informed of this. Since I put alot of work into these projectcts I thought I would have been added by now. Since the past two months I have been the only researcher who has posted new information on the h2g2
Essex Researchers page and I have already done 4 entries. Please can something be done abone about it. I I also do not have the entry links in my entry sections.

I think both Loup and Manda have real life problems/things to do. So you'll have to be patient a little longer.

but you (U198984) are on that page at number 26.

I think it would help if you could specify the A-numbers of the pages where you are missing.

You are not in the list of researchers on A1099794, "The h2g2 Essex Researchers Group", but there are no invisible entries. The accounts with no nickname have been converted into Researcher numbers in that box as opposed to the more general link box.

If that is one of the places you should be then it could be an accidental deletion or a rather strange bug - to do with the latest software changes surrounding SSO perhaps.

I used to be on the list of refrenced researchers on the h2g2 Essex Researchers page as I am the one who wrote the three entries: Strange Essex stories (Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3). I have also made alot of postings there as I have done quite abit of research on various information I found either on Essex as a whole or my locally about Thurrock.

I think they have stopped showing normal tv when you are in e-mail, I am getting the same and I know that jinty is as well

as for the your key board, I am getting the same thing,and when you change channels it will sometime change 2 or 3 time when you have only pressed one button. I have not had time to ask around to see if anyone else is having the same thing

Manda, it is possible to make the link on the page self-closing so that it displays whatever the current nickname is. That causes problems with people who choose ridiculously long and/or contiguous names which you might want to shorten to stop them messing up the page though. It also causes problems with those who set their nicknames to nul strings which then make an invisible unclickable link. Unfortunately it does not seem to be possible to create a self-sorting list on a page which adjusts itself when people change their nickname, eg from J to P.

Hey manda, I didn't know there were any little mandas let alone that they were accident prone. Tell him to stop it!

I have put the links as self-closing, but the problem with that is, when people change there nick name they expect it to move
kat name started with C (Captain...) hence the number 26 under the letter C
but then she changed it to P (Postive..) and I think she expected it to move down to the letter P
I do look over the page every so often and move the ones that have change, but to be honest it is not top of my To do list

I have one "little" boy (he's 25)
I keep telling him to stop it but you know what kids are like, never listens to me

hiya kat,ni,nice to see you .i have been upgraded aswell..i queried the front row box with t/west,as i wasnt happy that hubby couldnt watch his programme while i mailed later on at night.it is something that they arent going to change apparently...they told me it was sometmething to do wio with their advertisinsing policy....in other word..if we ram front row down ev everyones neck we.ll sell more films.as for the keyboard...if yof you look at the tag on y name you will see that i am having the same problems.although just reading this is enough isnt it!!!it is a <bpest,but,but what can we do....no point in ringing ig i tried...d...if you do get any info,will you let me know please..chat soon,nice to see you.salxxxx

Yep... as indicated in F121640?thread=331829 that seems to be a bug as the disappearance of Kat's name happened when she changed her nickname around the time the SSO was launched...


Time having to wait for name being put back on the lists:

Kat... about that... it has nothing to do with whatever reason you think it has... if you have a look at my space or the h2g2/LDers Space, you will notice that there are still a lot of things that need to be done but i hadn't have the time to do them... to name a few, one researcher still hasn't been added either on the members list for the h2g2 Essex Researchers Group, the entry on Essex celebrities isn't finished either, etc... etc... My own space isn't even finished being updated...


One thing people need to realise is that what Manda and i can do on here is influenced by what happens to us in Real Life... I did mention in another thread that my new[ish] working situation has affected me badly and that's one of the reasons i haven't been very active on h2g2 these last months...

The situation will improve eventually and hopefully every delayed things will be done as long as we're given a chance to do them first that is...

All i will add is that there is nothing personal about it, mainly Real Life playing tricks on us...?!...

And yep, it's to remind us when something that we said we will do hasn't been done after a certain time, fair enough [i was supposed to add the name once i had managed to migrate the h2g2/LDers account ]... but there is no need to take it personally... Manda and i _do_ appreciate the hard work being done by those who help the h2g2/LDers Space projects as without them, well, there would be no projects to speak of...




The alphabetical list:

Yep, unfortunately, even so a name on it will automatically change when a Researcher changes it, it still stays under the alphabetical order it was before...
And yep, that means that either Manda or i have to take the time to makes that updating... As some Researchers have a tendency to change their names quite often, we can't always guarantee that we will check the list regularly for any changes and that the update regarding the alphabetical order will be done quickly...

One solution would be to just list people in their U number order, but that too [another story/subject] seems to bring criticisms/confusion from some quarters...

Anyway, that posting was meant to re-assure Kat that she hasn't been forgotten and definitely not been ignored...

As for the TW upgrade, i had the "pleasure" to experience that as well unfortunately...

Makes the sign in process even more difficult as with repeated letters it's a sure thing to get the password typed wrongly if not careful...

My keyboard is rather in bad condition at the moment so some keys don't work as they should but, from the comments i've read from Digibox Users, it might not work better if it was still in good condition..

And yes, front row's repeated previews/trailers are a nightmare after a while... I do miss the ability to use TVinteractive and watch TV [even so it was in a small screen] at the same time...

I think that is caused by the same problem, people will not see there _new_ name under the right letter and think that it is not on the page, so they just say "can you put my name up there",

I think I might start a thread for name changes
