I am having problems remembering the difference between (pronounciation) femmine words and masculine ie ecossaise and ecossais. I am alright with femmnine words but with masculine words my mind goes blank.
I am having problems remembering how to pronounce words like Comment vous applez-vous or quelle est votre nationite. I get the phrases comment vous applez-vous and comment allez-vous mixed up. Please help me to remember.
Merci beaucoup
Kat

Lou, (Listy) Not around too much, don't be offended if I don't reply.. I'LL TRY! Posted Oct 1, 2003
Appeller = to call
Aller = to go, (loosely made into how goes you... how are you )
Erm
Comment appellez-vous - pronounced comm-ant ap-ell-ay vo-os?
Comment allez-vous - pronounced comm-ant al-ay vo-os?
Appeller = to call... erm. Maybe remember Je m'appelle as I am called, and remember that comment allez-vous is without the 'pel' hard to explain...

Bonjour
Pronoucning - not sure... :-S
nous is for "we"
Tu is for "you" informal and singular. Any "You" plural is Vous.
Ca va just means ok, or I'm ok, or alright

"What is your name?" woud be "Comment vous appelez-vous?!" or/and "Quel est votre nom?!" [the last one being a more literal translation]....
"How much is it?" is "C'est combien?!"
"Here is your bill" is "Voici votre addition"
[or "voila votre addition" "voila" covers a few things like "here we are"... "here it is"...
"Toasted cheese and ham sandwich" ==> "sandwich jambon/fromage toaste"
[the longest version would be: "sandwich au jambon et au fromage toaste"... oh and "jambon" is "ham" while "fromage" is "cheese"... the fact that i use a different order in the translation could be confusing...]
There is an accent on the "e" of "toaste" by the way... I still haven't had a chance to work out how to make accents while posting yet i'm afraid...
"un s au fromage" I suspect/assume that you meant "un sandwich au fromage" which would be then "a cheese sandwich"...
... Talk soon... Got a few things to do before i manage to migrate the h2g2/LDers Space account []... hopefully i will manage to do that as soon as possible as there is now a rather big "things to do" list regarding its pages...

The site seems to have been down for a while unfortunately [personal spaces disappearing etc..] so it might have been the cause then... hopefully you will be able to go back through the digibox soon...
Of course that [the site going down] didn't help me with what i wanted to do today...
_Another_ delay to be added to the delays list...
talk soon...
If you have any other queries regarding french post them anyway... I will try to answer them as soon as possible [unless someone else has answered them by the time i'm having a look again at this page's convos...]...
On my way offline now... back soon[ish] hopefully...
[Will also have a look at more french songs for next time i post to this page...]
